🧸 A little preparation can make unfamiliar medical experiences feel a lot less scary.

The Lonon Foundation recently joined the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Community Health Fair, where our Child Life Specialist and College of Charleston child life volunteers hosted a Teddy Bear Clinic for children in attendance.

Kids had the opportunity to practice caring for their teddy bears using bandages and Band-Aids, helping them become more familiar with medical supplies they may see during a doctor’s visit, hospital stay or a loved one’s cancer treatment. Through play, children can learn what these items are, why they’re used and, most importantly, that they’re okay. 💛

Our Child Life Specialists were also on site to guide the activities, answer questions, and create a comfortable space for kids to learn through play.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to bring Child Life support into the community and help children feel a little more prepared and confident when encountering the unfamiliar.

🦪 Shuck Fest volunteers needed! 💛

We’re getting ready for Shuck Fest on November 7, and we need a great team of volunteers to help make the day a success!

From helping with setup and check-in to supporting activities, raffles and cleanup, there are plenty of ways to lend a hand throughout the event.

Your time helps us create a fun, welcoming event while raising critical support for The Lonon Foundation’s programs for children impacted by a parent or caregiver’s cancer diagnosis.

🪱UPLIFT Families: Let’s make Worry Worms!

Join us virtually on October 17 for a fun, coping-focused activity designed to help our UPLIFT kids and teens better understand their emotions and explore healthy ways to cope with their worries.

We’ll be offering two different Zoom sessions based on age that day, and everything you need to create your very own Worry Worm will be mailed right to your door.

Pre-registration is required, so be sure to sign up soon to give us plenty of time to get your materials in the mail. We can’t wait to create, connect, and learn together!

Mammograms are an important part of breast cancer screening and early detection. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re sharing a few local resources that can make it easier to fit a screening into your schedule. 💗

MUSC is offering Saturday mammogram appointments at select locations throughout October! Call 843-792-8439 to schedule an appointment:
