Geauga Hunger Task Force Helping To End Food Insecurity In Geauga County

04/19/2026

Hunger in Ohio may be closer than you think.

1.4 million people across our state—about 1 in every 7 Ohioans—are food insecure. Even more heartbreaking, that includes 1 in 5 children who don’t know where their next meal will come from.

Right here in our own community, families are facing these challenges every day. The good news? You can make a real difference.

Your support of the Geauga Hunger Task Force and local food pantries helps ensure that our neighbors have access to the food they need. Every donation—big or small—directly impacts someone in need.

The Burton Food Cupboard had an amazing anonymous donor provide funding for a walk-in freezer for the pantry. This will allow them to consolidate and eliminate four freezers. This large freezer will also provide the ability to receive more deliveries of needed proteins.

Our heartfelt "thank you" to this amazing donor!

A frequent question that we get asked is "How many people need help each month, including children?"

On average, about 1,700 people locally need assistance each month—and that number has been rising. Among them are roughly 400 children, reminding us that many families are facing difficult times and turning to our community for support.

We are grateful for your continued support in helping those that are most in need!

One of our grant recipients, St. Mary Parish, utilized grant funds to provide community meals on the last Thursday of September, October, and November. During this period, they served 78 meals in September, 85 meals in October, and 90 meals in November. We extend our sincere appreciation to all who support the GHTF and help address the needs of individuals and families in our community!
