High school girls, grades 9-12, can apply through Feb. 23, 2026 for four-week paid summer STEM enrichment opportunities with North Carolina state government.

Established in 2019 by the NC Department of Administration’s Division for Women & Youth, the Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program provides college-bound girls an opportunity to explore STEM-based careers within state government to help recruit more young women into these fields.

Know a high school student looking for volunteer opportunities? We’re now accepting applications for Science for All Youth Summit on March 7, 2026!

The Science for All Youth Summit is a conference-style event designed for students in grades 4-7 from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds in STEM. Past activities have included microscope marvels, lemon electricity, and building biomechanics. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn and work alongside scientists and college students while earning volunteer hours.

Volunteer renewal window closes Oct. 31
Returning volunteers have until Oct. 31 to renew their volunteer status for the 2025-26 school year. Families will receive a final reminder in tomorrow’s WCPSS News. After Oct. 31, returning volunteers must register as a new volunteer.
