We are so proud of all our students who show courage and creativity when participating in our local Reflections programs.

Wake County's program is so strong that we often have winners at the National Level as well.

Check out Rahyl's entry!

Early voting started yesterday with a high turnout.

Haven't voted yet? Wake PTA and WakeEd Partnership have recorded candidate forums for WCPSS School Board District 1, District 2, and District 7.

The purpose of these forums is to educate voters about the issues facing the Wake County School Board and each candidate's positions and plans if elected. Both Wake PTA and WakeEd Partnership are non-partisan organizations and do not endorse any specific candidate.

These videos are now available from the Wake PTA Advocacy YouTube channel.

Note: We are still completing the forums for District 9 and should have those videos early next week.

Understanding Limits on Local Property Taxes

While capping local property taxes may seem like it could provide relief to homeowners and other property owners as property values and tax bills increase, an analysis by the NC House Coalition showed that it would provide very limited relief to the lowest-income homeowners compared to the targeted tax relief housing advocates champion. At the same time, limits on property taxes would give the most money back to large corporations like Duke Energy and luxury apartment developers, and limit this important source of revenue for counties and local governments.

Limits on local property-tax revenue could therefore take away resources from public education, public safety, infrastructure, parks, libraries, and other community services. If services are reduced, family life would become more expensive for most average North Carolinians. For example, park and recreation after school programs and summer camps could become more expensive, wiping out any modest savings for low to moderate income homeowners.

In addition, the state legislature setting property tax levy limits would take away local control from county governments to decide how to meet the needs of their own local communities.

Remember this at the polls.
