🏈 Last Week at Carrollton DawnBreakers Rotary! 🏈
We had a great meeting last week celebrating Mary Alice as she graduated from her Red Badge and welcoming an inspiring presentation from Coach Steve Englehart, head football coach at the University of West Georgia.
Coach Englehart shared his incredible journey in coaching, from volunteering to do whatever needed to be done, to becoming one of the youngest head coaches in the country, starting a football program at Florida Tech, building a program at Presbyterian College, and ultimately returning to UWG, where he knew he wanted to be because of the community.
His message went far beyond football. ❤️
One of his biggest challenges to us was to support the school in our own community. While many of us proudly cheer for larger D1 programs like UGA and Georgia Tech, he reminded us of the impact we can have by investing in the University of West Georgia and the students, athletes, and community right here at home.
A few of the lessons that stood out:✨ Pride — taking personal responsibility in delivering excellence and representing your team, your family, and your community well.✨ Leadership — everyone has an opportunity to lead someone.✨ Opportunity — sometimes a door only cracks open, but when it does, you run through it and blow it open.✨ Community — build a family, build a community, and be willing to do whatever it takes to make it better.✨ Be connectors and multipliers!
With 73 new players joining the team this year and UWG moving to Division I next year, there is certainly an exciting future ahead! 🐺💜
Thank you, Coach Englehart, for reminding us that leadership, pride, service, and community extend far beyond the football field.
Be connectors. Be multipliers. And, as always, put Service Above Self.

🌿 Service Above Self in Action! 🌿
Last week, some of our Carrollton DawnBreakers Rotarians and Rotarians-to-be teamed up with Keep Carroll Beautiful for a special service project at Pine Knoll Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.
Together, we worked to beautify and improve the courtyard, creating a more welcoming and enjoyable outdoor space for the residents to enjoy. 💚
It was a great reminder that sometimes the smallest acts of service can make a big difference in someone’s day. We’re grateful for everyone who came out, rolled up their sleeves, and helped make our community a little brighter!
Service Above Self. ❤️🌎

🏈 This Week at Carrollton Dawnbreakers Rotary!

We’re excited to welcome Steve Englehart, Head Football Coach at the University of West Georgia , as our speaker this week!

Coach Englehart was named the 13th head football coach in UWG program history in December 2025, bringing 15 seasons of head coaching experience and a reputation for building winning programs.

Most recently, he led Presbyterian College to a historic 10–2 season in 2025—just the third 10-win season in the program’s 113-year history—and was named the 2025 AFCA FCS National Coach of the Year. His career also includes multiple conference Coach of the Year honors, NCAA playoff appearances, and a strong record of developing student-athletes both on and off the field.

Dawnbreakers Weekly Recap & What’s Ahead!

This week, we welcomed Gordon Owens, Past District Governor and RYLA counselor, who gave us an inside look at the incredible impact of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).

This year,103 students attended RYLA, including five sponsored by our club! Students are challenged to meet new people, build confidence, develop leadership skills, resolve conflict, and step outside their comfort zones.

They also learned about Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus, packed an incredible 15,000 meals as a service project, and participated in activities designed to help them identify, and literally break through, the fears standing between them and their goals.

RYLA serves approximately 100–130 students each year, including students who already have leadership aspirations as well as those who have great potential but may just need an opportunity to step out of the shadows and shine.

WHAT’S AHEAD: SERVICE PROJECT!

Next week, we’ll be installing trellises at Pine Knoll Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.

📆 Wednesday 8/26/2026
📍 56 Pine Knoll Dr., Carrollton
⏰ 4:00 PM

Bring your family and kids and join us for an afternoon of service! It’s a great opportunity to serve together and put Service Above Self into action right here in our community.

Thank you, Gordon, for sharing the impact of RYLA and for continuing to invest in our next generation of leaders!

We had a great morning at Carrollton Dawnbreakers Rotary, hearing from Elizabeth Sanders, Carrollton High School Athletic Director, Coach, and PhD candidate, and Head Football Coach Joey King about the incredible things happening in Trojan Athletics!

We were also happy to welcome our guests Eric, Katie, and Jordan, and officially inducted our newest member, Destry Appleby with SERVPRO.

Welcome to Rotary, Destry!

CHS Athletics continues to grow and succeed, offering 26 varsity sports, along with bass fishing and Esports. Last year, a record-breaking 44 Trojans signed to compete at the collegiate level, including 19 of 23 senior football players. Trojan Athletics was also recognized by GHSA with a Sportsmanship Award for positive character.

Coach King, now entering his 6th season at Carrollton, shared an impressive 132–11 record, three state championships, and back-to-back state runner-up finishes. But what stood out most wasn't the wins, it was the emphasis on building champions and developing young men and women of character.

As Coach King shared, “How you do anything is how you do everything.”
Through accountability groups, community service, etiquette and leadership training, and programs like Habitudes, Trojan athletes are learning lessons that extend far beyond their sport.

Their commitment to serving the community especially resonated with our club and closely reflects Rotary's own guiding principle of Service Above Self. We love seeing the next generation learn that leadership is not only about achievement, but also about how you serve others.

The Trojan Student Athlete Development Fund helps make many of these character-building opportunities possible. If you'd like to support the fund and invest in the development of Trojan student-athletes, we'll share the giving link below!

This season, the Trojans are headed all the way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana!
Be sure to cheer them on at the watch party at the Carrollton AMP!

Thank you, Elizabeth and Coach King, for joining us and sharing how Carrollton Athletics is developing athletes, leaders, and great people.

Go Trojans! 🖤💛

We’re excited to welcome Carrollton High School Head Football Coach Joey King as our featured speaker this week!

Coach King was recently recognized by MaxPreps as one of the nation’s Top 100 high school coaches who made a significant impact during the 2025–26 school year, and was one of only two coaches in Georgia to receive the honor! 👏

Under Coach King’s leadership, the Trojans finished an incredible 14–1 season, broke multiple school records, and sent 19 student-athletes on to compete at the next level.🏆

Come hear from Coach King about his leadership, the success of the Trojan football program, and what’s ahead for Carrollton Athletics!

Another great morning with the Carrollton DawnBreakers Rotary Club!
We kicked off the meeting by welcoming our newest Rotarian, Matt Young.

Congratulations, Matt! We’re excited to have you join us as we continue serving our community together.

Our guest speakers, Central High School’s Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, shared a message that wasn’t really about football, it was about life, leadership, and the kind of people we’re becoming.
One statement kept coming back throughout his presentation:
“Be at your best when your best is required... and your best is always required.”

Coach Brown challenged us to stop comparing ourselves to others because, as the saying goes, “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
Instead, focus on chasing excellence, giving your best every day, and asking yourself, “Who am I becoming during that chase?”

He also spoke about how intentionally Central is developing leaders. With 106 players on this year’s team, they have Leadership Council, meeting every other week to mentor younger teammates and model character, accountability, and servant leadership. Their goal isn’t just to build great football players, it’s to build great husbands, fathers, leaders, and members of our community.

Through Service Above Self, we’re called to invest in others, lead with integrity, and leave our communities better than we found them.

Thank you for the challenge and the reminder that our greatest impact isn’t measured by trophies or titles, it’s measured by the people we influence and the example we set.

Be your best. Every day.
