As the official Facebook of the Carroll County Historical Society this page is open to all who have an interest in the history of Carroll County, Georgia. Founded in 1976 during the Sesquicentennial of Carroll County and the Bicentennial of the United States. The society's HQ's are located in the historic Curtis-Marlow-Perry House on West Avenue in Carrollton. This small dogtrot structure was buil
t by Henry and Nancy Curtis, who sold the lot that became the county seat of Carroll and Carrollton's downtown business district. CCHS has been involved in several historic preservation projects including the acquisition of McIntosh Reserve County Park in Whitesburg, and numerious roject in Carrollton inluding the Old High School /Community Activities Center, In-town South Residential Historic District, The Curtis-Marlow-Perry dogtrot House, The Historic Carrollton Depot. Other projects include a state survey of historic sites throughout the county. a brochure published on Carrollton's In-town South Historic District, the formation of an archives at the society;s HQ's, two historic ghost walks in Carrollton to place historic plaques on the square, and resurvey the city's historic properties, and a host of annual membership and preservation dinners held. Through the years over 40 awards for outstanding preservation have been presented to individuals and group who have helped save and preserve the history, papers, structures and historic sites that constitute the 140 plus year history of Carroll County, GA. The society has been involved in the publication of three major books: --
1. "At Home in Carrollton" a picture history book on the City of Carrollton
2. "The Heritage of Carroll County" a 600 page book on the history and families of the county.
3. "Monuments, Markers, and Plaques" from a survey done on all the written word inscriptions on historic markers and plaques attached to buildings and structures. (only a few printed.
. Monthly meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Tracy Stallings Community Activities Center on N. White Street in Carrollton., except summer months and Christmas.
