Service Above Self! Heartfelt thanks to club members and family members who served as Parade Marshals during the annual Carlisle Halloween Parade yesterday evening. The work of the parade marshal can be easily overlooked during the excitement that ensues. However, they perform the necessary task of containing an anxious crowd from potentially overwhelming the floats and if unchecked by marshals could create danger for the hundreds of candy seeking children that line the parade route. These marshals do this armed with a reflective vest, a flashlight, purpose, and a Rotary smile. We, parents, grandparents and the Borough of Carlisle thank you! Well done!

This week's Taste of the Town features Gingerbread Man of Carlisle, located at 5 South Courthouse Avenue. We are joined by members of the Rotary Club of Carlisle to discuss our collaboration for the 2027 Bloomin' Carlisle initiative. From left, Judy Wheaton is enjoying New England Clam Chowder with bread; Stacey is having the sizzling chicken salad; Byron Koste ordered the Mad Russian with fries; Cindy Gleim-Pool chose a burger and chips, and Phil is having the sizzling steak salad.

The G-man is open Sunday through Thursday from 11am until midnight; and from 11am until 2am Friday & Saturday.

On Thursday October 15th, we recognized member and former District Governor Mary Brunski with her 3rd year Paul Harris Award pin.

Mary has dedicated her life to Rotary and honored the principals of the 4 Way Test through her actions, and participation in community events, helping others, caring for animals, and working across the district to bring together our clubs.
We are grateful to have Mary in our club. Congratulations former DG Mary.

On Monday September 21rst, Rotary members from the Rotary Club of Carlisle and the Sunrise Rotary Club joined together with our Assistant District Governor, Harold Cooney from the Sunrise Club and our District Governor Rebecca Zalit to erect a Peace Pole in honor of Former Rotarian Sherwood McGinnis.

Sherwood is well known in the Carlisle area and as a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service with over 30 years of experience in the areas of national security, rule of law, governance, economic development, and foreign policy. Sherwood believed firmly in global peace and justice.

The Peace Pole, erected in front of the Bosler Library is a reminder to us all to choose peace and like Sherwood to cultivate peace in our daily thoughts, words, and actions.

Thank you to Mike Zick, Sunrise Club and Rob Schutt, Rotary Club of Carlisle for working together to make this project possible.

On Thursday September 27th, we welcomed our own Cate Mellen. Cate presented an update and overview of the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County.
This wonderful nonprofit serves the Carlisle and Cumberland County area. They address the most critical needs in our community by focusing on education, income, health and safety net.

The United Way provides funding to 23 partner agencies and 33 programs and run a very successful Success By 6 program, heating assistance program, and tax assistance program. They have a history of successfully partnering with local agencies on projects such as pandemic preparedness, transitioning teams when local companies are closing or significantly downsizing, agency fairs and financial management courses.

United Way believes that every person is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect – this includes equal treatment, access to justice, and available opportunities to adequate healthcare, education safety and security.

Thank you Cate for your wonderful presentation and reminding us to Live United and to advance the common good. Together, united, we can create a better future for all!
