Meet Josephine Ovalles, our Student Digital Media Assistant! 👋

Josephine joined the Housing Coalition through HACC's Federal Work-Study Program and supports many of the behind-the-scenes projects that help keep our work moving forward.

Currently studying Web Development and Design at HACC, she hopes to pursue a career as a Web Developer after graduation 💻 Josephine brings strong communication and organizational skills, along with experience in administrative support and public service.

Outside of work and school, she enjoys traveling, crocheting, playing video games, and baking desserts. She's also the proud owner of a three-year-old orange tabby cat named Mango 🐱

We're grateful to have Josephine on our team and excited to be part of her journey as she works toward her goals!

The Housing Coalition of Cumberland County was honored to attend this morning’s Homeless Memorial Blanket Project press conference in Carlisle, standing alongside first responders and community partners committed to supporting neighbors experiencing homelessness. Initiatives like this remind us that compassion, collaboration, and thoughtful action, down to the items we carry, can make a meaningful difference in times of crisis.

Partner Spotlight: Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania ✨

This week, we’re highlighting Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania - a Harrisburg-based organization supporting veterans through residential and community-based programs that build stability, connection, and opportunity 🤝

Their residential therapeutic community pairs tiny homes with wraparound services including mental health support, recovery services, life skills development, and 24/7 care 🏠 Their Outreach and Supportive Services Program also provides case management and peer support to veterans living independently across the region.

Community partnerships help make this work possible, alongside workshops focused on financial literacy, technology skills, employment readiness, and more. Looking ahead, they’re excited to continue expanding onsite programming and opportunities for veterans 🌟

That’s nearly 3x Pennsylvania’s minimum wage - for just a ONE-BEDROOM residence🤯

Not extra space. Not rooms for kids. Just a living room, a kitchen, and a bedroom.

Housing affordability affects our neighbors, coworkers, older adults, young professionals, and families trying to build stability in our community. When the cost of housing continues to outpace wages, more people are forced to make impossible choices.
