Evergreen Garden Club of Carbondale Our Club maintains the Japanese Garden at the Carbondale Library, and Woodlawn Cemetery planters.

We hold meetings every 2nd Wednesday at 11:30am at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall, Carbondale, IL.

They are located west of McLafferty Road on the north side of Pleasant Hill Road-3373 W Pleasant Hill Road.

Recently Evergreen Garden Club members took a field trip to the private grounds of Trent Mohlenbrock. Mr Mohlenbrock has 23 acres, two of which bear over 300 species of plants and trees.

A little fun fact botany lesson for all. My sister sent me a picture of her “shamrock” Oxalis plant’s “roots” as she was transplanting it. I thought I remembered their roots were actually corms. Who knew that true bulbs are layered?

Our Evergreen Garden Club is responsible for keeping the four large urns at historic Woodlawn Cemetary seasonally planted. This morning with the help of members Linda Ward and Marilyn Feldman, President Sandy Litecky and Marcia Sinnott planted ferns in each urn. Before Memorial Day Linda will add bows appropriate for the occasion.

Evergreen Garden Club members Carolyn Ferdinand (center) and Kathy Barnes (right) have worked tirelessly preparing items for this weekend’s Hunger Sale in the Old Navy location at Carbondale’s University Mall. I showed up for a couple of hours on Thursday to give Carolyn a hand with the plethora of plants awaiting new owners.
