CARBONDALE -- The relationship between police and local community has been on the minds of many in Carbondale after an officer was shot earlier this month.

Things are happening very fast with our upcoming event "Bring the City Out" schedueled for August 27th at Attucks Park from 11-4. We have three great sponsors who have stepped up to help offset some of the cost of this event. Who we will be revealing the middle of next week. We also have received a few donations on our Go Fund Me Campaign and are currently at $200 which is close to our Goal, but we still need the communities help. Even if you can not donate please make sure to come out and mingle with us, city officials and other residents of our community.

BLACC is hosting a "Bring The City Out" event at Attucks Park in Carbondale to unite residents and community leaders.  Donations are needed to help offset the costs of  entertainment and insurance for inflatables. Tentative date is set for August 27th, and funds would be needed by August 15th to...

This Thursday August 4th @ 7pm we will be holding a meeting to discuss the progress of our next event, "Bring the City Out" which is schedueled for August 27th @ Attucks Park from 11-4pm. We will be updating donations received, organizations involved, & areas we still need help in or approval on. This will be a short meeting so please be on time. If you are interested in coming out to offer services or just listen in on our plans please feel free to come. I do ask you respect that we will be in a library so "Inside Voices" are a must. In the aftermath of the violence taking place on Carbondale's Northeast side with police, BLACC reinforces their commitment to improve relationships between law enforcement and residents and hopes to help ease any tensions that exist.

The first big step was taken today with the graffiti clean up. It was nice to have the support of the Mayor as well as the Carbondale Police Department. This is what our group intends to be the first of many events with the community leaders, as well as other community organizations, and residents of the area.

MT. VERNON -- A new community action group wants to improve relations between residents and police. Members started Thursday, by helping clean-up downtown Carbondale.

COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP MAKING DIFFERENCE IN CARBONDALE

CARBONDALE -- A new community action group has formed in Carbondale, with the intention to better community relations with the police department, city leaders and community members . The group Black Love Adjoining Communities Collectively(BLACC) affiliates themselves with the nationwide Black Lives Matter group, but has local intentions.

BLACC wants to make the community aware that their mission is to create a better, more peaceful community environment that’s fair for everyone.

Recent protests and violence has increased tension in Carbondale. BLACC would like to make it clear that their group had no involvement in these incidents and would like to show their dedication to their community by cleaning up graffiti painted on local businesses and sidewalks by a different group with other malicious agendas. BLACC has a cleanup planned at 10am Thursday the 21st at the law offices of Barrett,Thomey Morris 403 N.illinois Ave. We would like to invite local media to join us to get a better understanding of our mission within the community.

Organizer Jonathon Moore, a Carbondale native, says, “We are here to build, not destroy. Our relationship with community leaders needs work. Distrust and hate are learned behaviors. We can reprogram ourselves.”

We invite any member of the city leadership and member of the community that would like be part of the event.
