International Student Council

International Student Council Established in 1973, the International Student Council brings together international student organizations at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.

Diversity. Culture. Community. The International Student Council (ISC) is one of the largest Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). The ISC was formed in 1973 as an umbrella organization, which facilitates all registered international student associations on campus. ISC’s primary objective is to represent the interests of international students t

hat are studying and/or working at SIUC to organize activities and events which present the culture and traditions from most nations around the world and reveal the diversity of the SIUC campus.

Looking back on our first International Coffee Hour of the semester, held on August 21!

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we welcomed the new semester with great conversations and a positive spirit. It was wonderful to see both familiar and new faces come together and connect.

A special thank you to the Center for International Education (CIE) for hosting us and to the International Friends Club for co-sponsoring the event with us!

Today marks the first day of the Fall 2026 semester, the beginning of another chapter, filled with new possibilities, familiar faces, and people we have yet to meet.

For those returning, may this semester bring you back to the people and places that make SIU feel like home. For those just beginning your journey, we hope you find friendships, communities, and little moments that make this place feel like home too.

A little look back at the World of Welcome!

Our ISC board was excited to introduce our newest international students to the different RSOs under the ISC umbrella and give them a chance to learn more about the communities they can get involved with at SIU.

Thank you to all the RSO leaders who came out to table and welcome our new Salukis! We also appreciate our ISC leaders for helping make WoW happen and being there throughout the event.

And a special thank you to the Center for International Education (CIE) for supporting us with everything we needed for the event!

A little look at lunchtime during International Student Orientation!

These are some of our newest international students joining SIU this Fall 2026! After a morning of orientation, everyone had the chance to enjoy some pizza, relax, and spend time getting to know one another.

We hope your time at SIU is filled with new friendships, great experiences, and plenty of moments to enjoy not only our campus, but Carbondale and the wonderful communities that make it home — both our local and international communities.

We’re so excited to see the International Student Council featured by SIU News!

A huge thank you to Pete Rosenbery for taking the time to learn more about ISC and for putting together such a wonderful article highlighting our council, our mission, and the work we’re looking forward to this academic year. We truly appreciate you sharing our story with the SIU community!

We also want to give a special thank you to our ISC President, Mehak, for providing the information and sharing ISC’s vision for the year ahead, and to our advisor, Tina, for her continued support and for creating a new recognition initiative for ISC members this year.

We’re grateful for everyone who helps make ISC what it is, and we’re excited for everything that’s ahead in 2026–2027!
