We’re a nonprofit organization in the arts & entertainment category.

A nonprofit organization expanding the cultural arts in our region, focused on creating opportunities for people to discover and participate in the arts and supporting creatives and our arts community through exhibits, programs, grant funding, and beyond. We support the arts and artists. To ensure a respectful and inspiring space for all, here’s how we operate:

- All shared art or creative work is either created by our organization or used with permission from the artist and is protected by copyright. Unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or commercial use is prohibited. Community Interaction

Additionally, if warranted, it may be reported to the appropriate authorities. We value free expression and support open dialogue; with that said, our nonprofit platform is not a venue for advocating for or against specific individuals, artists, or creative or artistic works. Content that includes offensive language, personal attacks, or statements intended to harm individuals or undermine the integrity of our organization will be moderated or removed. We aim to maintain a respectful, inclusive space that protects creative freedom without enabling targeted criticism or hostility. Privacy & Data Use

Kicking off Juneteenth celebrations by honoring legacy through an incredible story with local roots. We are deeply honored to welcome Alsandra Lewis (Mounds, IL), daughter of “Memphis” Johnson, Negro National League baseball team owner, to share a living history and her reflections.

Humanities Community Session features:

- Short film on the family's legacy by Southern Illinois filmmaker Dan Johnson
- Panel Discussion and Q&A with Alsandra Lewis
- Plus, get creative with an interactive, family-friendly arts project

Welcoming Alsandra Lewis is a huge privilege, come out to meet her and experience history through someone who actually lived it.

Location: Artspace Southern Illinois - 304 Cultural Arts Center, 304 W. Walnut St, Carbondale.
