MTFD is extremely happy to announce we have received the Small Equipment Grant to purchase a set of stabilizer jacks for car wrecks and replacement air cylinders for our SCBA. This will enhance our ability to serve our citizens and travelers more rapidly and thoroughly.
Many thanks to the IL Office of the State Fire Marshal for our consideration in this grant.

Makanda Township is planning an event next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary celebration of the Makanda Township Fire Department.

Congratulations to Captain Garrett Hartke on his completion of Basic Operations and Advanced Technician Firefighter. After over 200 hours of study and hands on training, he graduated today. MTFD is very proud of this accomplishment.

Monday March 30 2026 MTFD will host a Traffic Incident Management class. Sign up through the IFSI website or Monday night. Class starts at 1800, 5975 Giant City Rd Carbondale. All First Responders are welcome including Fire, EMS, Police, tow truck operators, and dispatchers.
