Here are some sample images taken today that demonstrate the stunning results of the new camera/lighting outfit we now have full access to. We can now document our tremendous Bucky archive with equipment that is also used by museums such as MoMA, the Louvre, and the Smithsonian Institute. Only the best for Bucky!!

Did you know that legendary jazz innovator Ornette Coleman created several musical works inspired by Buckminster Fuller?

A jazz musician and a futurist. Coleman called Fuller his number one hero! In a way, both were exploring how individual parts come together to create something greater.

Fuller called it synergy.

Coleman heard it in music.

And both knew creativity was not about rigid formulas. They believed in emergence, experimentation, discovery and new possibilities through connection.

Buckminster Fuller continues to inspire artists, musicians, architects, designers, and dreamers. His ideas were never confined to buildings. They were about relationships, systems, and patterns. Kinda like jazz.

The interpretive tour was given by Dome Board member and volunteer Judy Ashby and Dome Board member and SIU STEM Education Research Center Outreach Coordinator Steve Gariepy and was well received by this international group.
The group’s professor, Geoff Young ended the tour with a moving recitation of writer Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot” piece.

Too cool!!

Today we learn about boron buckyballs, 80‑atom cages long thought impossible to make—until experimentalists proved otherwise. Also, we go back in time with our Inflection Point podcast to visit a self-sustaining wooden submarine that set the stage for today's carbon-removing technologies. And we...

Rainy, overcast days are perfect for photographing murals around Carbondale. We particularly appreciate seeing the two newer ones featuring a quote by Bucky and a geodesic dome. All great stuff!

Our second blog, Dynamic Tensegrity: The Total Solar Eclipse April 8th, 2024 has been uploaded onto our website (see link below). It covers how our board VP, Mike Chervinko, with the help of board member Benjamin Lowder, photographed the 2024 eclipse over the dome. Please enjoy!

To tell the whole story, we must go back to the spring of 2015. It was then that I first learned that a total solar eclipse was destined to pass over my home in Carbondale, IL on August 21st, 2017. Prior to that, and like many other kids growing up, my only experience with solar eclipses was trying....
