Meet the Alumni behind the Flying Saluki National Champions, Nathan Lincoln and Michael LeFevre!

The Flying Salukis earned their 10th National Championship at the 2026 NIFA SAFECON competition! Behind these amazing student aviators are 2 amazing coaches, both graduates of the Aviation at Southern Illinois University Carbondale program.

"Winning a national championship as the head coach of Southern Illinois University’s Flight Team is incredibly special to me because this program played such a big role in shaping who I am. As a former Flying Saluki competitor and SIU alumnus, I know the commitment and pride that come with representing SIU," says head coach and 2000 alum Nathan Lincoln. "Being able to help lead this team to a national title is truly a full-circle moment, and I couldn’t be more proud of our students and everything they put into this season."

"As an alumnus of Southern Illinois University and the SIU Flying Salukis, there is nothing more rewarding than giving back by serving as a longtime coach of the flight team. The team was central to my university experience and created lasting memories. I am immensely proud to watch firsthand as the next generation of Saluki aviators carry on that legacy — and with this year's victory, that feeling is particularly sweet," added assistant coach and 2001 alum Michael LeFevre.

Congratulations to Saluki Men's Golf alum Mike Tucker on his Gateway PGA Hall of Fame Induction earlier this year!

He is currently the director of golf at Bellerive Country Club near St. Louis, and was formerly on the Section Board of Directors for the PGA of America.

Our St. Louis Scholarship has reached its endowment goal 📣🎊

This cements the fund’s future as a lasting source of financial support for St. Louis area students to attend .

Leslie Patterson, a '03 alum and longtime leader of the St. Louis - SIU Alumni Association group, said it is extremely rewarding to reach the endowment goal. “We have so many alumni who are always proud to show up and support their alma mater. I know reaching this goal is only going to energize them further, knowing high school students from the St. Louis area will always have a resource to help them become Salukis for life.”

Meet Mark Bradley, a 1977 Radio-Television grad! After school, Mark started an advertising and public relations company with his father, Jack. Vowing to retire at age 45, Mark did just that!

He then made it his mission to see all seven continents of the world. Earlier this year, he conquered his final destination in Antarctica!
