Congratulations to Professor Brian Mullgardt on earning the 2025 Illinois State Historical Society Russell P. Strange Book of the Year Award.

His book "Wear Some Armor in Your Hair: Urban Renewal and the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Lincoln Park" was released in 2024 through SIU Press (Morris Library).

Mullgard graduated from with a BA in History in 1994 and an MA in History in 1996. He is currently a professor and director of the School of Social Sciences at Millikin University.

LETā€™S SHUT DOWN THE STRIP!

The City of Carbondale, Southern Illinois University, and friends are going for a three-peat on Friday, October 16, when they once again close Illinois Avenue to traffic and invite everyone to the 3rd Annual SIU Homecoming Music Street Festival.

Join us as The Strip transforms into Southern Illinois' biggest block party with great music, food trucks, street vendors, and Saluki pride from 3 pm to midnight.
