💧 Protect Local Waterways While Maintaining a Healthy Lawn

Spring is here, and that means lawn care season! But too much fertilizer or applying it incorrectly can pollute our rivers, ponds, and even local drinking water.

Here’s how to be water-smart:
• Test your soil to know what your lawn really needs.
• Avoid phosphorus unless necessary - it fuels algae growth.
• Use slow-release or organic fertilizers and consider leaving clippings or growing clover.
• Never apply fertilizer before heavy rain, on frozen ground, or right near a waterbody.

NepRWA attended the 2nd Boston Green Infrastructure & Climate Social yesterday. We heard from presenters including Kerry Snyder, NepRWA's Managing Director for Community Resilience, who gave an introduction to the event and highlighted the value of green infrastructure improvements. The event spoke to the importance of Boston's Flood Resilience Project and how collaborations with community groups that have made this work possible.

On Sunday, NepRWA and volunteers led a walk at Neponset Reservoir in Foxborough—where history and nature meet at the headwaters of the Neponset River.

Created in 1845 to support industry, the reservoir is now surrounded by vibrant trails and wildlife. The walk blended local history with time on the trail, plus an impressive bird list including Great Blue Heron, Eastern Bluebird, Baltimore Oriole, Red-winged Blackbird, Pine Warbler, Eastern Towhee, and more.

A great reminder of the life and history right in our Watershed.

Help pick up trash and remove invasive plants around the lake and nearby streets in Sharon.

Meet: Memorial Park Beach bandstand (Beach St, Sharon)
Sat. June 13 | 8:30 AM–12:00 PM

All supplies provided. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and wear closed-toe shoes. Volunteers for invasive plant removal can bring loppers or cutting tools.
