Maureen Taylor really loves family photographs. All of them - from the mystery images you find in shoeboxes and albums to the pictures you snap with your digital devices. No mystery is too small. A simple question about an image can lead to new stories about your ancestors.

If you don’t know who’s in a photo, don’t worry. Maureen has proven methods for putting names to the faces in those pictures, telling you more about when they were taken, who took them, and why. As a former curator at a historical society, she knows how to make sense of photographs and family history.

Join Thomas M. Cully of the Cranberry Township Historical Society and Cranberry Genealogy Club member, for a talk about the Declaration of Independence, the 33-year-old who wrote it, and the brave Pennsylvania Delegates who voted for it in Philadelphia at the Second Continental Congress. These individuals in their own words wrote they "mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our Sacred Honor."

The month of August is dedicated to paying our respects to all the brave men and women wounded or killed in combat.

The official Purple Heart Day is observed on the 7th day of August each year, commemorating the historic day in 1782 that George Washington, Commander-In-Chief of the Continental Army, commissioned the first Purple Heart Medal, originally called the Badge of Military Merit.

VA will honor 49 Veterans of the Revolutionary War who are interred or memorialized in VA national cemeteries or VA-administered soldiers lots in private cemeteries, as part of the yearlong effort to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
