Child sexual abuse is a silent epidemic. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are victims of child sexual abuse. The abusers are not strangers lurking in the dark. They are family, friends, peers, neighbors, people involved in community organizations with access to children. We as parents, family, friends, and caring community members, have an obligation to arm ourselves with the tools to ensure we are doing the most we can to prevent our children and other people's children from being victims of this type of abuse. It doesn't matter if you live with a white picket fence or in public housing - child sexual abuse affects all communities, regardless of race, faith, or class.

Today I had the opportunity to present Rock the Talk for the first time, and I’m leaving with so much gratitude 🤍

In my work, I sometimes have the privilege of supporting children as they heal from trauma.

Prevention is such an important piece of the conversation. How can we become more proactive? How can we help adults feel informed, comfortable, and confident having these conversations and creating safer environments for children?

I’m incredibly grateful to The Mama Bear Effect for trusting me to share their Rock the Talk material and to The Haven, Inc. for creating space for this conversation at their Regional Trauma Institute.

September is Kinship Caregiver Month, making today’s Grand Connections meeting an especially meaningful time to gather, learn, and support the grandparents and relatives raising children in our community. 💙

A big thank you to South Enotah Child Advocacy Center for joining us to present Rock the Talk, a training focused on helping caregivers better protect the children in their care. The conversation covered recognizing signs of abuse and grooming, body safety, creating a family code of conduct, identifying potential red-flag behaviors, and knowing how to respond when a child shares something concerning.

We’re grateful for the kinship caregivers who showed up today—and who show up every day for the children they love. During Kinship Caregiver Month, we’re especially honored to celebrate the commitment, sacrifice, and stability they provide. ❤️
