Thank you to the teachers who participated in the pilot of our new sickle cell disease lab!

Funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), this lab guides students through the analysis of a family pedigree to determine the genotypes of individual family members, connecting genetics concepts to a real-world health context.

We were grateful for the opportunity to partner with teachers in a virtual and hands-on session to introduce the lab ahead of its fall 2026 rollout. Thanks for their thoughtful feedback so we can further refine the lesson!

Thirty years ago, BABEC began its work in San Mateo County, CA. 💗

The full circle of that moment was not lost on us when we returned to San Mateo High School for a professional development session with teachers from across the county. 🏫

Educators who already use BABEC lessons may be interested to know that reagents aligned to our curricula are now available for order through our new site: https://zurl.co/cxeya. We ship anywhere in the United States to support classrooms nationwide. Our reagent kits are designed for a classroom of 40 students and are lower cost.

For educators who are new to BABEC, we provide free, classroom-tested biotechnology lessons designed to support hands-on learning. Our reagent kits and curricula go hand-in-hand to make implementation easier for teachers.

All proceeds support BABEC’s mission, to empower teachers and expand access to high-quality, hands-on biotechnology education for students.

To a new partnership! 💚
BABEC was thrilled to host teachers Jessie Bretall, Matt Rupert, and principal, Lakeisha White from Compton Academy of Innovation and Technology for some hands-on biotech fun!

We explored lessons on micropipetting (perfect for their brand-new equipment 🎉) and dove into our Introducing Biomanufacturing Lesson Series.

Thank you to the educators who joined BABEC’s Fall Workshop on our new Introducing Biomanufacturing Lesson Series — featuring lesson resources on bioindustrial manufacturing and a hands-on lab on making alginate pearls with lactase!

Participants explored ways to connect Chemistry concepts with biotechnology applications, while practicing industry-style documentation using batch records for production.

We’re thrilled to see so many teachers excited to bring biomanufacturing awareness into their classrooms!
