"In 2012, our students had endured years of catastrophic budget cuts caused by the recession and learned in classrooms packed tighter than they should ever be. California voters asked the wealthiest 2% to pay a little more to help our schools recover. It worked," says Starr Avila.

Californians, then, voted again to protect this funding that feeds millions of our students and provides healthcare coverage for families through Medi-Cal.

Prop 3 would help keep these funds in our classrooms without raising taxes for anyone. Read more here: https://calmatters.org/commentary/2026/08/proposition-3-california-schools-funding/

In 2025, California corporations received almost $94 billion in tax breaks— supposedly to create jobs and boost the economy. But are we getting what we're paying for?

Up for a full floor vote tomorrow, SB 1349 creates a real system of accountability in our corporate tax code. As educators, we know the real value of every dollar and understand accountability is the key to stopping corporate tax breaks.

Every community in California will lose healthcare and school funding if Prop 3 fails.

As educators, we know every dollar is vital for our students, and we must do everything in our power to protect their futures.

It's going to take every one of us to pass Prop 3. Learn what's at stake at your school and sign up to canvass at cta.org/yeson3

We're voting Yes on Prop. 3 because our schools deserve funding that doesn't expire.

Prop. 3 makes permanent the tax rates that have already delivered $120 billion over nearly 15 years for smaller class sizes, school lunches, mental health counselors, and Medi-Cal. If we don't act, that funding expires in 2030 and 1 in 6 educators could face layoffs.

The good news? We know exactly how to win this: conversations on doorsteps, neighbor to neighbor.

Join thousands of union educators at our canvass kickoff on September 19 and be part of the movement protecting our schools for the long haul.
