VTC is thrilled to announce that last year’s world premiere of Four Women in Red, written by Laura Shamas and directed by Jeanette Harrison, has been nominated for Best Ensemble at the 31st NAACP Theatre Awards! Originally developed at , Four Women in Red is an evocative work of theatre that challenges audiences to question our society’s complacency and celebrates the power of community as four women fight for the answers they deserve.

The Victory Theatre is grateful to have served as a home for Four Women in Red’s full-length premiere and we are so proud of the entire cast, crew, and VTC board members for the effort put into this piece!

BackStory is just one day away, and we are thrilled to have Douglas Manuel joining us! Tickets are $10! Join us for an evening of stories and support indie theatre!

Douglas Manuel was born in Anderson, Indiana, and now resides in Long Beach, California. He received a BA in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, an MFA in poetry from Butler University, and a PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California. He is the author of two collections of poetry, Testify (2017) and Trouble Funk (2023) and an assistant professor of English at Whittier College.

Dane Halvorson, originally from Billings Montana, is an actor and musician living in Los Angeles. He studied at the Chicago College of Performing Arts and spent a few years touring with The Second City as a Musical Director, both on land and for NCL cruise lines. He has acted at various theaters across Chicago including the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Writers’ Theatre and Strawdog Theater. He’s performed at iO Chicago, The Annoyance, The Second City and a summer run at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. All the thanks to Danielle for her love and support. Also, Winston and Furg for all their input. They’re cats, but their input is valuable nonetheless.

Benin Lemus (she/her) is a Los Angeles-based poet, librarian and educator. Her 2022 debut poetry collection, Dreaming in Mourning, was published by World Stage Press. She was an Inaugural Workshop Fellow with Obsidian Magazine’s O|Sessions: Black Listening—A Performance Master Class, a Pushcart Prize nominee, and received Honorable Mention in the 2022 Furious Flower Poetry Center’s annual competition. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Callaloo, Consequence and TORCH Literary Arts Magazine, among others. In 2024, Benin served as the poetry judge for AWP’s Intro Journals Project. She teaches poetry in the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.

It’s BackStory week! We’re so excited to celebrate Stand By Me with our fantastic lineup of storytellers, starting with !

Sapna Kumar is an actor and comedian who began her career in Chicago, performing in more than 10 Chicago theater productions, touring with a repertory company, and understudying Homebody/Kabul at Steppenwolf Theatre. After moving to Los Angeles, she has appeared in independent films and has been on ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” and Netflix’s “I Think You Should Leave.” In 2023, she co-wrote and performed the play Yoniverse, which won Best Drama and Pick of the Fringe at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. An accomplished stand-up comic, Sapna has also appeared on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and LOGO TV’s “OneNight StandUp.”
