Helping at Risk Kids - HARK Helping at Risk Kids, Inc. (HARK) serves abused and neglected children, many of whom are identified through the Guardians ad Litem.

HARK is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides support and resources for at-risk children in the greater Buncombe County area to promote a safe, enriching, and hopeful future. HARK was formerly known as the Guardian ad Litem Association (GALA) of Buncombe County. The name change allows us to (a) expand our mission beyond at-risk children currently in protective custody under the state’s social service system, and (b) remove confusion with the Guardians ad Litem who acts as the voice of the children in family court. We have a vision that vulnerable children, including every abused and/or neglected child, will have the support they need to succeed and to grow up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization (501(c)(3).

HARK’s Angels Winter Coat and Winter Wear Drive is still underway, and we have lots of coats and cold-weather essentials left to purchase for children in Buncombe County!

This year, we’re reaching even more kids, including children in foster care and students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Every coat, hoodie, pair of sweatpants or other winter essential helps a child stay warm this season.

HARK’s Angels 3rd Annual Coat & Winter Wear Drive is here!❤️

This year, we’re expanding our reach to help even more children in Buncombe County, including children in foster care, youth aging out of foster care, and students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.

From warm winter coats to hoodies, sweatpants, and leggings, every item helps a child feel warm, comfortable, and cared for. Last year, more than 60 HARK’s Angels helped purchase approximately 175 coats in just 48 hours! This year, we’re aiming to make an even bigger impact.
