Wildfire Update - May 15, 2026, 7:00 PM

Since yesterday, Texas A&M Forest Service firefighters and all assigned resources have responded to 18 wildfires, burning 55,850.5 acres statewide.

Fire potential is expected to increase across the High Plains through Sunday, May 17. Across the rest of the state, recent rainfall and greener vegetation are helping keep fire potential low for now.

By Monday, dry lightning chances will end as a cold front moves across the state, bringing widespread rainfall to the eastern two-thirds of Texas.

๐Ÿšจ Stay Wildfire Aware! If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

Over the past 7 days, Texas A&M Forest Service firefighters and all assigned resources have responded to 18 wildfires, burning 2,423 acres statewide.

Fire conditions have improved across much of Texas as recent rainfall has increased dead fuel moisture and expanded green, herbaceous fuels.

However, the High Plains and Caprock regions have not received as much beneficial rainfall and will continue to support low to moderate initial attack fire potential through midweek due to dry to critically dry surface fuels.

Looking ahead, a more moist fire environment is expected to develop starting Thursday, which should further limit wildfire potential. With the absence of strong fire weather triggers this week, the potential for large wildfires remain limited.

๐Ÿšจ Stay wildfire aware! If you see smoke or a wildfire, call 911 immediately.
