The Black Rock Coalition must once again pause and pay our respects to two giants and pillars in our community who passed away over the last couple of weeks...

First is master engineer Ollie Cotton, legendary engineer at A&R Studios and former FOH engineer at the Apollo Theater. Ollie recorded several of the most important records and artists on the New York music scene, then later ran FOH sound for the weekly Wednesday talent shows, "Showtime at The Apollo," "Apollo Comedy Hour," and "Apollo Cafe"...

Second is Don Jacobs of FullStack Productions NY, formerly Dr. Don's Midnight Express. Don ran FOH sound and provided rental gear for countless Black Rock Coalition events and productions...

Both were central to the BRC's mission and our ability to do what we do for the community...

We will miss them both terribly...

A long time BRC supporter, Maritri always brought elegance, grace, beauty and love to the many projects that she was a part of. A sweet spirit and a kind, warm soul. We are thrilled and excited to have the BRC Orchestra partner again with Poetwarrior Productions LLC, the company of our Director of Operations Darrell McNeill, who is producing and presenting this massive Stevie Wonder retrospective, "Stevie: A Life In The Key of Songs," at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) on May 14-16, 2026. The Orchestra will be performing with very special featured guests, and will be co-directed by Darrell and our own LaFrae Sci.

The BRC Orchestra will be performing five peak genius period Stevie albums in their entirety over three nights: 'Music of My Mind' and 'Talking Book' on Thursday, May 14; 'Innervisions' and 'Fulfillingness' First Finale' on Friday, May 15; and "Songs In The Key of Life," Saturday, May 16. Tickets and information available at www.bam.org

"Stevie: A Life In The Key of Songs" is the latest in PoetWarrior Productions' 'Black Masters Concert Series,' which featured the BRC Orchestra on retrospectives for Curtis Mayfield (2022), and Sly & The Family Stone (2024). "Stevie" will be PoetWarrior's most ambitious project to date. Guest performers will be announced shortly.

THIS POST WENT UP PREMATURELY WITHOUT COMPLETE VERIFICATION. A COUPLE OF RELATIVES OF BILLY'S POSTED OF HIM PASSING AWAY, AHEAD OF ANY FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM BILLY'S INNER CIRCLE.
