The faces of Weeding Wednesday 🌿 As summer starts to wind down, we’re feeling especially grateful for all the volunteers who have spent their Wednesday evenings with us this season 💚 Week after week, you’ve helped w**d, prune, plant, haul, clean up and care for Bushwick Inlet Park, all while making these evenings a pretty great way to spend a Wednesday 🙌

And we’re not done yet! Weeding Wednesday continues through October, so there’s still plenty of time to grab some gloves and join us. 🌱

Nature Spotlight: Magnolia Seed Pods 🌿 If you’ve spotted these curious-looking pods around the park, they’re magnolia seed pods! As summer winds down, the cone-like fruits begin to mature and split open, revealing bright red seeds tucked inside.

And if you make it to the last slide, you might spot someone else enjoying the magnolia tree too 👀🐦

One of Bushwick Inlet Park’s most elegant visitors, the Great Egret, can often be spotted along the shoreline patiently hunting for fish, crabs, and other small aquatic animals.

One of Bushwick Inlet Park’s most elegant visitors, the Great Egret, can often be spotted along the shoreline patiently hunting for fish, crabs, and other small aquatic animals.

Standing over three feet tall with a wingspan of nearly five feet, these striking birds are a reminder that even in the middle of New York City, our waterfront provides important habitat for wildlife.

Join us for 🍄 Fungal Futures Pt. 2! Next Saturday May 30, 1:30PM @ Bushwick Inlet Park, 86 Kent Ave, BIP community room. We’ll be exploring fungi, wetland ecosystems, and the future of ecological restoration along NYC’s waterfronts. Together, we’ll learn more about mycelium, bioremediation, native marsh plants, and the long community struggle to reclaim and protect the waterfront. It will include hands-on planting of native _Spartina alterniflora_ marsh grass during low tide as part of an ongoing effort to rewild the Brooklyn shoreline and support local biodiversity. Expect sandy shoes and hands-on learning at the water’s edge 🌊🌾✨
