During Gun Violence Awareness Month, members of the Crisis Management System came together to reaffirm a shared commitment: building safer communities through unity, healing, and action.

The message is just as important today as it was then. Every conversation that de-escalates conflict, every life we mentor, and every act of compassion brings us one step closer to the communities we all deserve.

🕊️ Peace is more than a word—it’s a movement.

At the 2nd Annual Pull Up for Peace, Brother Mitchell reminded us that real change begins with a simple commitment: choosing unity over division, love over hate, and healing over violence.

As a co-convener of this national movement, Brother Mitchell stood alongside leaders, credible messengers, violence interrupters, faith leaders, and community organizations from across the country—all united by one mission: building safer, stronger communities.

With more than 700 attendees representing over 122 cities, Pull Up for Peace demonstrated the power of what happens when communities come together with a shared purpose. This is more than an event—it’s a nationwide movement rooted in hope, accountability, and collective action.

Together, we can build a future where every life is valued, every neighborhood is supported, and peace becomes our legacy.

Pull Up for Peace Walk ✊🏾🕊️

The movement doesn’t stop in the conference rooms — it takes the streets.

Today, Until Freedom walked together with organizers across the country during the 2nd Annual Pull Up for Peace Conference to honor our communities, uplift those doing the work, and remind the world that peace is built through action, unity, and collective responsibility.

From Atlantic City to cities across the country, leaders, organizers, young people, violence prevention practitioners, and community members came together with one message: we must invest in healing, transformation, and the power of our people.

This walk represents our commitment to building safer communities, creating pathways for opportunity, and standing together until peace is not just a vision — but a reality.

Sister Shakeya is now the Assistant Director of Man Up! Inc., but her journey did not start there.

She rose through the work.
She stayed committed.
She kept showing up.
She proved what leadership looks like when it is built from the ground up.

Her story is a reminder that this movement needs all of us — the brothers on the frontline, the sisters leading with strength, the people behind the scenes, and the community standing together.

From the block to the White House — this is movement work. ✊🏾

For over 20 years, Man Up! Inc. has stood on the frontlines of violence prevention, healing, and community transformation.

What started in the community has reached places many never imagined — City Hall, the White House, and beyond.

Our founder, A.T. Mitchell, has been invited to the White House several times for his leadership in community violence intervention. Last year, Man Up! Inc. was honored with the Key to the City by Mayor Eric Adams.

Through it all, the mission remains the same:

Serve. Protect. Heal. Build.

It has been an honor to do this work — and we are just getting started.
