❤️❤️Saturday we held a bed build in honor of Paul Moriarity, who would have been 97 years old. Along with two teams from the Knights of Columbus, we set out to make 97 beds. 🛏️ We actually ended up making 103, and finished up 2 hours early!😃Because of Paul’s quiet generosity, we have this incredible shop that makes bed builds like this possible❣️Over 3,000 - YES - 3,000
beds 🛏️ made, and over 3,000 kids lives changed❣️Over 3,000 kids who don’t have to sleep on the floor anymore❣️ That number doesn’t take into account the lives changed when they get involved with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, building beds and delivering joy to children❣️🥰

At 87 years old, Charlie Schnabel of our Sleep in Heavenly Peace - SD, Brookings chapter has a simple philosophy on retirement: "Sit down, you fade out."

Charlie has been building beds with SHP since 2018 — and showing up is just what he does. Last Saturday, his chapter built 20 beds in an hour and a half. On May 2, they'll gather again to build 97 beds in honor of the late Paul Moriarty, a beloved champion for SHP who would have turned 97 this month.

When asked what keeps him going, Charlie doesn't point to the builds. He points to the deliveries.

"Where the rubber meets the road is when you go on a delivery and take this bed into this home and you set it up for this child. And this child comes in. We're seeing these kids sleeping on a pile of clothes. They don't have a bed; they don't have a mattress."

This is what looks like to us — people like Charlie, who show up week after week because they know what's at stake for the kids waiting for a bed. 🛌
