NATIONAL CONTEST AWARDS!
South Dakota received the following awards yesterday at the national contest:
•Sami from Roosevelt High School (pictured in this post) placed fourth overall in the senior paper category. Her project was titled “Give Me Liberty, I've Already Got Death": How Lois Gibbs Fought for Environmental Rights During the Love Canal Tragedy. Sami also received the Senior Outstanding Affiliate Award.
•Delia, Emerson, and Mollee from Harding County Middle School were awarded the Junior Outstanding Affiliate Award for South Dakota. Their junior group performance was titled The Promise Land Called to Them. Additionally, this group placed second in their judging room, earning them an honorable mention.
•Julia and Rya from Patrick Henry Middle School placed second in their judging room, earning them an honorable mention for their junior group performance titled Working for Equality: Women's Work and Social Equality in the 1940s-1960s.
•Shai from Ben Reifel Middle School placed second in his judging room, earning them an honorable mention for their junior individual exhibit titled I Am An American.
