The Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the loving and long-term care of over 60 animals including mountain lions, tigers, leopards, bobcats, ring-tail lemurs, serval, lynx, lions, llamas, and a tortoise. Some of the animals were abused, abandoned, or kept as exotic pets before they came to the facility. Others were retired from the entertainment industry, retired from zoos, or transferred from other facilities that closed or reached capacity. Regardless of an animal’s origins, they are all given tremendous love and world class husbandry when they find a home here. We continue to evolve in order to best serve our mission of providing a safe, permanent, and loving home to exotic animals in need. We focus on excellence in physical and emotional care, advocating animal welfare through education, and conducting minimally-invasive research with the aims of improving living conditions for captive animal populations world-wide.

It’s watermelon time at CARE! 🍉🐾

You helped us unlock our third Summer ’26 Relief Fund milestone, and we’re celebrating by treating some of our animals to a little watermelon enrichment!

When we launched our fundraiser, we promised special enrichment videos for every $5,000 raised. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we not only surpassed our original $25,000 goal, but raised more than $90,000 to help CARE recover from a summer filled with unexpected emergencies.

Now we’re making good on our promises, one fun enrichment video at a time!

Watch as our animals investigate, play with, and enjoy their watermelon treats! 🍉

Thank you for making these special moments possible and for helping us continue providing exceptional care to the animals who call CARE home. ❤️

Stay tuned for one more milestone video!

Nope, you aren’t seeing double. Meet Dutch, our new security guard in training. Head of Security, Bubbles, has been working hard trying to teach this youngster the ropes. It’s a touch job keeping the whippersnapper in line…and away from his sticks.

At 20 years old, brothers Jakey and Luca are the oldest male tigers to ever live at CARE! 🐅❤️

While we’ve had many female tigers live into their 20s, some even reaching their mid-20s, it’s much rarer for males to reach this age. Male tigers are typically much larger than females, and we’ve generally seen our bigger boys have shorter lifespans.

We like to think these two got a little something special from their momma! ❤️ Their mom, Allie, recently passed away at the remarkable age of 24. She also holds the record as the oldest female tiger to ever live at CARE.

We’re incredibly grateful for every day we get with these two stately gentlemen! 🐾

Happy (belated) 13th birthday to Yolo! We love doing photo shoots with her in the fields.

She lives almost full time now down with the lemurs and the bobcats. She has adopted them as her “babies”. And she hangs out with the cows in our neighbors property. She’s a free-range llama now! 🌸

It’s Nadal & Divali’s 11th birthday today! To celebrate, here’s some of the welcome party we had when they arrived at CARE about 10years ago. They were just kids then. Honestly, they still haven’t grown up. Not sure if they ever will. 🤦‍♀️ We wouldn’t have it any other way though!
