Backlight Productions Backlight Productions offers weekly classes in theater, music, and dance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Providing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to gain education in the arts and perform significant roles in integrated performances Each class provides quality training in the arts and challenges students to reach their full potential then gives them the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in professional-quality productions alongside, and with th

e support of, industry professionals. At Backlight, individuals with IDD learn valuable skills and develop broad experience in the arts. The opportunities provided at Backlight create purpose and community, enhance social skills and help students grow in confidence both on and off the stage. A backlight is a light that shines behind a performer to keep them from blending into the background. At Backlight Productions, the community is given the opportunity to come behind artists with IDD and offer whatever skills and support they can give to help see people of all abilities on the stage.

One of the beautiful things about what we do at Backlight is getting to share a season (or many seasons) of life with so many talented artists and creatives...

Some artists stay for years, decades- even, some for a season, but each person leaves an impact — and we’re grateful for every person who has walked through our doors and become part of our Backlight community.

To any of our friends who aren’t able to join us for this next season, please know our doors are always open and we’ll always be cheering you on. And we're thankful we’ll get to still see you again at a Night Out and in our audience!

We are (all) missing Dolly. 💙

Dolly, we’re so sad we never had the opportunity to collaborate with you. That was one of our dreams at Backlight. What a bright light you were—and will forever continue to be. ✨

Kendall (Backlight Songwriter) wore her favorite signature blue butterfly 🦋 Dolly hat at the recording studio yesterday. BKLT songwriters talked about trying to channel the radiant and confident spirit that made Dolly so special.

We miss you, Dolly. We are forever fans of your music, your zeal for life, and the extraordinary way you used your gifts to help so many people. You were always shining your spotlight on others.

Our theme this year is “The Impossible Dream” as we celebrate the remarkable Backlight artists who remind us impossible dreams can come true every day.

We currently serve over 100 people through our classes and productions and would love to increase our ability to serve the IDD community.

The gala will feature an open bar, dinner, and a silent auction. The evening’s highlight will be a performance by Backlight Productions artists joined by some very special guests, all making for a night you do not want to miss!
