Hope Force International

Hope Force International Christian disaster relief organization. Learn how to give, pray, and get involved here ➡️ https://t.mtrbio.com/hopeforce Hope Force is a 501(c)3 organization.

We equip everyday people to care for disaster survivors worldwide, offering practical help and emotional & spiritual support. Hope Force International is committed to motivating, equipping and mobilizing followers of Jesus around the world to respond in times of crisis and chronic need, alleviating suffering and bringing hope through compassionate action. We are dedicated to providing a clear path

way for Christians, worldwide, to become leading responders to the plight of global suffering. Hope Force attempts to respond in an appropriate manner to any given disaster where the organization is involved, and all assistance is given free of charge. For instance:

In the immediate aftermath of a tornado, Hope Force will often send in teams of people who are skilled in tarping and securing damaged homes to mitigate further water damage for the homeowner. HFI also trains our Reservists to learn this skill, so that they are valuably prepared for successive disaster events. There are many in the HFI ranks who have learned to properly tarp a wind-damaged home according to FEMA standards. In the aftermath of a hurricane where flooding is involved -- such as Hurricane Sandy -- Hope Force teams will muck out homes and help homeowners properly deal with their belongings. HFI teams will often be involved in tarping damaged roofs to mitigate further damage after a hurricane as well. After an earthquake, such as the Haiti earthquake of 2010 where HFI is still involved in recovery, Hope Force sent in orthopaedic surgical teams to perform life and limb-saving surgeries. As well, a medical team of 19 was deployed to the epicenter of the earthquake where they set up a field hospital, treating 3,000 in one week alone. Currently, Hope Force is involved in restoring a village near the earthquake's epicenter which lost 90% of its housing. HFI is rebuilding homes, offering community health education and medical assistance, and has an ongoing food assistance program for the children of the village. Having lost so much, the desire is to give a "hand up" to this community to help them back on their feet. After the great tsunami of 2004, Hope Force sent orthopaedic teams to Sri Lanka to help survivors who sustained traumatic injury due to the violent impact of the tsunami waves. In each one of our disaster responses, Hope Force sends in highly trained chaplains who are skilled as emotional and spiritual caregivers. Beyond our chaplains, all Hope Force responders (called "Reservists") receive teaching on the grief and trauma curve, and understand how to come alongside people in an appropriate manner -- no matter the responder's job assignment. It is our heartfelt desire that all understand that everyone is needed, and there is a place for you! If you would like to know more about joining our ranks, please contact us at [email protected] -- or even right here on Facebook. We will be happy to welcome you into our ranks!

Our team has been on the move, working to identify a pathway to serve in severe weather-affected areas across the U.S. this week.

After staging near Louisville on Wednesday night, our team spent Thursday connecting with emergency management officials and response partners across Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky to assess tornado impacts.

The tornado damage is less severe than feared, although some neighborhoods were still devastated. Our local contacts have shared that communities are stepping up, making our response less crucial, and Hope Force is standing down from the upper Midwest.

But our attention is now fully on Louisiana.

Tropical Storm Arthur hit Avoyelles Parish hard, a community far from the Gulf Coast and not used to this kind of flooding:
🏠 250+ homes confirmed flooded
💧 3–5 feet of water inside some homes
🌧️ 30 inches of rain in just 24 hours

Our Training Director, Aaron Stetson, is headed to Louisiana right now to assess the damage firsthand. We don’t want to deploy our teams immediately without a clear pathway. We’re putting in the work to find out exactly how - and if - our Reservists could help these communities in the coming weeks.

Will you pray with us? 🙏 Pray for families in Avoyelles Parish, for Aaron on the ground, and for wisdom as we determine next steps. Updates coming. 💙

Two storm systems are threatening communities in the U.S. today, and we are actively monitoring them while staying ready to respond.

Along the Gulf Coast, a tropical system is expected to bring heavy rain and flash flooding from Texas to Alabama, including communities like Lake Charles, Louisiana, where we’ve served before and where the ground is already saturated.

Across Illinois and Indiana, forecasters are warning of conditions that could support strong, damaging tornadoes this afternoon. Emergency managers are taking the threat seriously, and so are we. Especially after the tornado that just hit Streator, IL last week.

The Hope Force truck is fueled, and our trailer is stocked and ready to go. Our team is watching, waiting, and prepared to move if these communities need us this week.

For now, the most powerful thing any of us can do is pray. Will you join us in praying for the safety of everyone in the path of these storms? Please for families making hard decisions to leave or stay, for local leaders and emergency crews on the ground, and for wisdom in the hours ahead.

We’ll keep you updated. Hope Force stands ready. 🙏

They fled with nothing but their lives. 💔 Families in Guerrero, Mexico, have endured immense devastation in recent years from hurricanes and flooding. Hope Force Mexico has responded in the past, bringing incredible help and hope to survivors there.

But the situation is now worse than we could imagine...

Last week, violence between criminal groups in Guerrero intensified, and innocent people are in the line of fire.

Now, hundreds of families have been displaced as violence spreads through rural communities. Homes are burned down. Crops, livestock, and other sources of income are gone. Churches have emptied.

Parents have carried their children through the mountains on foot to avoid the heavily guarded, criminal-controlled roads.

Among the displaced are hundreds of our Christian brothers and sisters. One pastor watched his truck burn as armed men set fire to his community. Another Christian father was killed while trying to warn his family to get to safety.

Our hearts are absolutely broken for these survivors who have endured the unthinkable.

We are praying for hope, and our Hope Force Mexico team is currently working with local church leaders to support displaced families with food, hygiene supplies, and emotional and spiritual care.

🙏 Please pray:
• For families who have lost everything.
• For children carrying the trauma of violence and displacement.
• For pastors, churches, and Hope Force Mexico Reservists serving on the front lines.
• For peace, protection, and for the violence to end.

Your prayers are a powerful way to help, but your gift can also fuel Hope Force Mexico's crucial work in the coming months. Make your gift to these families at https://hopeforceinternational.app.neoncrm.com/forms/mexico-support

Hope Force family, will you pray for the community of Streator, Illinois, today? 🙏

Late yesterday afternoon, a large tornado moved through this town located southwest of Chicago. In some neighborhoods, homes were flattened to their foundations. In others, trees, power infrastructure, and homes sustained incredible damage, leaving many families displaced this week. 💔

The Streator School District shared this message on Facebook:

"Streator is an incredibly strong, close-knit community, and we are confident that we will all come together to help our neighbors through this. Stay safe, everyone."

Hope Force is actively monitoring the situation and praying for everyone affected. Early reports indicate that local response efforts are meeting the immediate needs, but we will continue to watch conditions closely and stand ready to help if needed.

As the situation unfolds, please pray:
• For displaced families whose homes were damaged.
• For first responders working to keep the community safe.
• For local churches and community leaders as they care for their neighbors.
• For strength, hope, and a swift recovery in Streator.

When a tornado passed over their home, an elderly couple felt themselves lift off the ground in their safe room, and then gently settle back down.

When they stepped outside, their house was still standing. But just a few houses down, a close friend hadn't survived the same storm.

When Hope Force Reservists arrived, they tarped the roof. But they also sat with this couple, listening to their story and making sure they didn't carry the weight of that day alone.

That's what disaster recovery actually looks like. 👉 Read the full story here: https://hopeforce.org/tornadoes/emotional-support-for-tornado-survivors/

Most people don’t realize that after a disaster (tornado, hurricane, ice storm, you name it), fallen trees can trap families in their homes, block emergency access, and delay recovery for entire communities.

But chainsaw work is dangerous, and for years, we've intentionally kept our Reservists away from it until we could get proper training that prioritizes safety and effectiveness.

Now, that’s changing. 💪🌳 This week, a group of Hope Force Reservists completed hands-on training so they can serve disaster survivors in even more practical ways when a storm hits. Every new skill learned means more families reached, more homes accessed, and more hope delivered when people need it most. 🙌
