Keep our backcountry safe! Please recreate responsibly in Summit County.
Fire danger has gone back up to EXTREME as a result of the heat and low humidity. By the end of the week, we are expecting our indices to be maxed out at the 100th percentile again and the humidity to be in the single digits. This is not a common occurrence for Summit County when you look at our history.
We want to thank everyone for their continued efforts in keeping the news of fire restrictions on the front page. We had a few incidents related to open burning, but when you look at the amount of people in the county this summer, we are clearly having an impact.
We are hoping the monsoon sets up next week again, so keep doing the rain dances, and always remember that it's not too late to prepare yourself and your home for the threat of wildfire. If there were one action every homeowner should complete, w**d whacking the grasses within 30 feet of the home and removing all combustibles within feet. Those two things will make the largest impact on your home's survivability.
