This gorgeous Great Blue Heron has made Camp it's summer home for several years. It's always an impressive sight to see this magnificent bird enjoying the Camp lake and ponds... watching it fly is magical!

We are hosting a series of running, paddling and mountain biking races with XTERRA NJ today to benefit several charities including our local Blue Ridge Ambulance Squad. Races started at 8:45 am and will run through 2 pm. Lots of fun happening at Camp Linwood MacDonald YMCA today (and every day!)

Isn't nature amazing?!!

Even though the temperatures are chilly and we've had a few snow showers, Nature is telling us that Spring is here!

Robins have returned to Camp and are getting busy building their nests. More on Robins later... Flowers are shooting up from the ground. The hillsides appear tinged with red as the buds are opening on the trees.

AND, the chorus of Spring Peepers has been heard for the past two nights. Spring Peepers are a frog that lives in forests and woodlands that have or are close to wetlands and ponds. The environment at Camp Linwood MacDonald is an ideal home for these vocal frogs with our mix of forests, wetlands, ponds and streams.

YMCA Setúbal in Portugal is inviting young people from around the world to join its International Summer Camp Counsellor Programme in 2026, taking place at YMCA Camp Alambre, located in the heart of Portugal’s stunning Arrábida Natural Park.

This programme offers a unique opportunity to work with children and young people while living in nature, developing leadership skills, improving English communication, and experiencing intercultural exchange within the global YMCA movement.

About the Programme

The YMCA Summer Camp combines non-formal education, outdoor adventure, environmental awareness, and community life. Activities include climbing, kayaking, beach sports, environmental education projects, camping games, cultural visits, and themed night activities. English is used daily, creating an international and enriching environment for both campers and counsellors.

Counsellors play an active role in creating a safe, inclusive, and child-centred experience, acting as positive role models and supporting the personal development of participants.

Who Can Apply

YMCA Setúbal is looking for 6 International Camp Counsellors aged 18 to 29, with a good level of English and preferably previous experience in youth work or summer camps. Applicants should be motivated, responsible, and aligned with YMCA values: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Solidarity, and Optimism.

Conditions & Support

Counsellors will receive:

Accommodation at YMCA Camp Alambre
All meals during the programme
Personal accident insurance
€300 per week salary
Working periods run between 21 June and 5 September 2026.

With storm warnings in effect for this weekend, please review this list for quick preparations you can make to keep your family safe:
1. Fill your gas tanks
2. Secure enough food and water as travel may be difficult for a day or two.
3. Check on elders and sick.

Camp Linwood MacDonald will be offering a Counselor In Training (CIT) program July 19 - August 7, 2026 for Teens entering 10 - 12 grades (ages 15 - 17).

The program will emphasize leadership development, outdoor recreation activities, child development & guidance, group dynamics and logistics of operating a Camp.
