The Ellis Island Hospital restoration is an ongoing, multi-million dollar preservation project led by the non-profit Save Ellis Island in partnership with the National Park Service. The goal is to stabilize and restore the sprawling 29-building South Side complex that treated sick immigrants from 1902 to 1954.
To date, Save Ellis Island has raised over $70 million and successfully stabilized or restored several major structures, including:
The Ferry Building: The central hub connecting the island.
The Hospital Laundry Building: Restored to include elevators and accessible educational spaces.
Marine Corridors: Restored pathways connecting the north and south sides of the island.
Many more buildings have been stabilized.
