A new study led by Professor Eric Dearing of Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development found that access to strong educational opportunities across early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence predicts educational attainment better than access during any one period alone.

The findings underscore why a continuum of learning matters. At CCS, our academies provide a strong educational foundation from pre-K through Grade 8, then help students transition to high schools where those opportunities can continue. Together, our schools and Catholic high school partners create an educational pipeline that supports students across their formative years.

The results are powerful: 98% of CCS alumni who attend Catholic high schools graduate, 92% of our alumni attend four-year colleges, and 16% pursue graduate degrees.

We are grateful for our partnership with Boston College Lynch School, including through City Connects and the Roche Center for Catholic Education of Boston College. We are especially grateful to Professor Eric Dearing and CCS Board of Advisors member Dr. Melodie Wyttenbach for their leadership in this field and their continued thought partnership in our work.

Last Thursday, Lakeshore Learning opened its doors bright and early for our second annual back-to-school shopping event for Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy and Trinity Catholic Academy Brockton teachers! Seventy teachers filled the Saugus store, selecting the supplies and learning materials they need to bring their classrooms to life for the new school year. Teachers who could not attend will receive gift cards so they can stock their classrooms, too. This special morning was made possible by the generosity of a wonderful couple who continues to invest in our teachers and recognize all they do for their students. We are so thankful for their kindness - and so excited to see our teachers put these new materials to work!

As Fr. Leahy finishes 30 years of faithful, transformative leadership at Boston College, CCS extends our heartfelt congratulations. During his tenure, BC became a world-class university and living witness to faith in action - forming men and women "for and with others." Fr. Leahy's belief that strong Catholic schools are built through mission and partnership informed how BC could serve more expansively. Ever focused on this, Fr. Leahy's leadership and expertise as a CCS Trustee inspired and furthered the CCS model for change, demonstrating that through co-sponsorship, commitment to mission, leadership, and collaboration, Catholic schools can flourish and be sustained. Gio, a 6-year-old student from the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy Lower Mills Campus - and a huge fan of Jaylen Brown - was spotted on 7News - WHDH Boston today as he explained how sad he was about Jaylen being traded to the Sixers and how Jaylen had reached out to him directly upon hearing this, reassuring him “It’s okay, little bro, we’ll always be friends.” Thanks for looking out for even your youngest of fans here in Boston, Jaylen!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎

Meet Ms. Dionne Greenidge: Ms. Dionne Greenidge joined Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy, Columbia Campus as an Interventionist during the pandemic and has since worked in several roles, always willing to adapt to the needs of the school. Today, Ms. Greenidge is the Media teacher, enthusiastically preparing students to navigate the new technologies in our world and to use them to further their skillsets. Additionally, Ms. Greenidge has played an integral role in implementing our robotics program, encouraging young students to think about careers such as engineering and technology that are needed but underrepresented in the next generation of high school and college graduates. Ms. Greenidge respects and embraces the diversity of each of her students and instills in them the importance of being a positive member of both the Academy and the Greater Dorchester community. In recognition of her exceptional impact, Ms. Greenidge was awarded the Yawkey Award for Teaching Excellence this year. Thank you, Ms. Greenidge, for your immeasurable impact on the Columbia Campus community.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎

Meet Ms. Talia Siravo: Ms. Talia Siravo joined Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy in 2011 as a Lead Teacher at the Lower Mills Campus. Today, she serves as the Literacy Academic Coach, supporting more than 70 teachers across the Lower Mills, Columbia, and Neponset campuses. A graduate of Emmanuel College, Ms. Siravo went on to earn her master’s degree from American International College, becoming a certified K–12 Reading Specialist. She is also a former Yawkey Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence recipient and a proud marathon runner. Without our academic coaches and excellent educators like Talia, none of this work would be possible. Since her time as an instructional coach, academic growth rates and achievement continue to rise across the Academy. Thank you, Ms. Siravo, for your leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment to SJPIICA students and teachers!

Meet Mr. Charles Russell: Mr. Russell joined Trinity Catholic Academy Brockton as Dean of Student Life after nearly two decades of service as a Massachusetts‑licensed public high school mathematics teacher. Prior to his career in education, Charles spent several years working as a computer engineer. Mr. Russell is a graduate of Northeastern University and Cambridge College and has served faithfully as a Deacon in his church. His deep faith, passion for mentoring young people, and commitment to academic excellence continue to inspire students at Trinity Catholic Academy. In addition to his role as Dean of Student Life, he serves as a mentor and coach to many students.

Thank you, Mr. Russell, for playing such an important role at TCA and being an inspiration to hundreds of students throughout your career.
