National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) NFPA is a nonprofit that seeks to save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge, & passion.

The NFPA mission: We help save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge and passion. Our information and knowledge comes in many forms:

- Support for the development, adoption and enforcement of our 300 codes and standards
- Research and data analysis
- Technical training and certification
- Public education
- Outreach and advocacy

NFPA brings collective passion to its work with a dedicated staff who come to work every day to solve the fire problem; some 6,000 volunteers who sit on our technical committees and provide expertise and wisdom; 65,000 members, and other stakeholders, who use our material and carry the messages to help save lives. Our International Operations department works to develop and increase global awareness of NFPA, its mission and expertise by promoting worldwide use of NFPA’s information and knowledge.

Ross Ashley kicked off the 2026 Urban Fire Forum today at National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) headquarters in Quincy, his first as NFPA President & CEO. Fire service leaders from some of the world's largest fire departments are here to share ideas, tackle emerging challenges, and learn from one another under this year’s theme, “Leading Through Disruption.”

There’s some history here too. NFPA hosted the first Urban Fire Forum at Batterymarch Park in 1989, making it especially meaningful to welcome the Forum back to Quincy today.

Looking forward to two days of great discussion and collaboration.

The conference, taking place April 27 – 29, 2027, in Northglenn, CO, brings together professionals from across the fire service, public safety, public health, emergency management, healthcare, education, government, nonprofit organizations, and other allied fields who help promote safety in their communities.

Did you know that existing National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards already provide a comprehensive roadmap for safer data center growth?

A key challenge is the terminology gap. While many look for "data center" regulations, NFPA 75, Standard for Fire Protection of Information Technology Equipment, provides requirements for the protection of information technology equipment and IT equipment areas from fire, electrical, and related hazards. This includes data centers.
