The North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) and the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF) are proud to announce that Majid Momeny, PhD, of the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is the recipient of the 2026 NANETS Basic/Translational Science Investigator Award, a two year, $100,000 grant funded by NETRF.

Poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma often returns after chemotherapy. Dr. Momeny is studying a protein that helps these tumor cells survive treatment, and testing whether blocking that protein can make chemotherapy more effective. This project has the potential to transform the treatment of neuroendocrine carcinoma.

GLP-1s have become a widespread and effective tool for treating diabetes and obesity, and their use is expanding to other conditions. For people with neuroendocrine cancer and their clinicians, there's a growing need to know more about how GLP-1s may interact with their disease or treatment plan.

In this episode of NETWise, we look at what researchers and clinicians know so far about GLP-1 medications and neuroendocrine tumors—and what we still don’t know. Some neuroendocrine tumors express the GLP-1 receptor targeted by these medications, but new research suggests that receptor expression varies considerably by tumor type.

We also explore another important consideration for people with cancer: how the appetite suppression and weight loss associated with GLP-1s can affect nutrition, muscle mass, strength, and treatment.

Listen as experts in the field break down the evolving science to help you make the most informed decisions.

This week, NETRF CEO Elyse Gellerman joined patient advocates from around the world at the annual INCA (International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance) Summit.

Together, they shared successes and challenges in raising awareness, strengthening patient advocacy, and expanding access to treatment for people facing neuroendocrine cancer.

Elyse also presented NETRF's recent work to bring the patient voice directly into research, a step toward ensuring those most affected help shape what comes next.

Style Meets Impact 💜

Citizens of Humanity donated $28,000 to NETRF through sales of The Lindz, a jean created in honor of Lindsay May Palevsky.

Lindsay was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and cherished friend who was known for her grace, resilience, and love of butterflies. Throughout 2025, $50 from every pair of The Lindz sold went directly to funding neuroendocrine cancer research.

Thank you to Jared Freedman and the Citizens of Humanity team, to Lindsay's husband Jon Palevsky and her friend Simone Harouche, and to everyone who purchased a pair. Each one honors Lindsay's life and helps advance research that offers hope to people affected by neuroendocrine cancer.

Lindsay's legacy lives on through the people who loved her, and through the research this gift will help fund.

When it comes to a cancer diagnosis, using precise language is critical.

Referring to a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PanNET) as “pancreatic cancer” can direct patients toward information about a disease they do not have, including different survival statistics, treatment approaches, expectations, specialists, and research.

Pancreatic Cancer and PanNETs are two separate diseases, and the differentiation shapes what patients and caretakers understand and what happens after diagnosis.

Learn more about how these two diseases differ and why that difference is so important.

Why do some neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) grow slowly for years, while others progress more quickly?

Researchers have often looked to DNA for answers, but more recently they are investigating epigenetics. Epigenetics controls which genes are turned on or off, and how strongly they're expressed.

A new study summarizes what researchers currently know about epigenetic changes in NETs and how these discoveries could eventually improve diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
