Last Friday, we joined Great River Greening for an on-site biochar demonstration at Rotary Riverside Park in Brainerd! 🌱🔥 Natural resource professionals and community members got a hands-on look at how biochar can support ecosystem restoration ahead of upcoming park improvements.

A large number of piles of wood waste were successfully converted into biochar as part of a project with the city of Brainerd and Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District. Thanks to everyone who came out, events like this are what make conservation work in Crow Wing County so rewarding.

On Wednesday June 3rd, we assisted with a native planting workshop that was taking a look at two of our sites, Baxter Elementary Prairie and Whiskey Creek Stormwater Project. During the workshop, we discussed management of native planting projects, identified some early stages of current vegetation, and what sorts of things to look for and consider with these types of projects. Thanks to Pheasants Forever for putting this together, The Xerces Society for providing technical expertise, and staff from various conservation districts and NRCS who attended.

Ready to support pollinators in your own yard, but not sure where to start or what to do next? Check out this free program!

You’re not doing this alone. 🌿

Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home is a free, guided program from Blue Thumb that connects you with the tools, knowledge, and community support you need to create pollinator habitat at home.

Throughout the program, you’ll tap into a network of partners, educators, and organizations from across Minnesota. We’ll share webinars on topics like native plants and pollinator habitat, promote hands-on workshops and events, and connect you with trusted guides, tools, and local resources.

You’ll also be able to learn alongside other participants—sharing questions, progress, and inspiration as you go.

It’s everything you need to grow your knowledge—and your habitat.

Sign up to get connected: https://bluethumb.org/lawns-to-legumes/habitat-at-home/

Habitat at Home is offered through Lawns to Legumes, a collaborative state-funded effort administered by Blue Thumb and the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources.
