Volunteer Spotlight: Dave & Sandra ❤️
Today we’re shining a spotlight on two incredible volunteers, Dave and Sandra, whose story with foster care began more than 50 years ago.
Originally from Ohio, Dave and Sandra were raising their three children when, in 1975, they wanted to open their home to a child who didn’t have a family to celebrate Christmas with. When they called their county office, they learned that holiday placements were no longer available. Instead, they were asked if they would consider becoming foster parents.
After learning what fostering would require and spending time praying and talking it over as a family, they decided they were all in. They completed their training, welcomed their first foster child into their home, and began a journey that would become a lifelong connection to foster care.
When they later felt led to move to Florida, it was another big decision they brought before God as a family. Within just two months, their home had sold, they had found a place to live and jobs, and they were settled in Bradenton. And once they were settled, they jumped right back into foster care.
Foster the Family didn’t exist when Dave and Sandra were fostering, but years later, they discovered our ministry through their church, which has many foster families. They knew firsthand what it looked like to walk through foster care, and they wanted to use that experience to encourage and support families who are in it today.
Although they no longer foster, volunteering with Foster the Family gives them a way to stay connected to the foster care community and continue supporting families.
Dave and Sandra, thank you for saying yes all those years ago, and for continuing to say yes today. Your story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes one “yes” can turn into a lifetime of making a difference. ❤️
We are so grateful to have you as part of the Foster the Family family!
