WHO’S READY TO HOST A FRIENDSGIVING TOY DRIVE?!

This year, let’s make your Friendsgiving celebration mean even more!

We’re inviting you, your family, your small group, your workplace, or your circle of friends to host a toy donation drive for Foster the Family!

It’s simple: gather your people, share your favorite dish, and ask everyone to bring a new, unwrapped toy. Together, we can help make sure children in foster, adoptive, and kinship families in our community have Christmas gifts to open this year.

Want to host one?

It doesn’t take a huge event to make a huge difference. One Friendsgiving. One toy. One child reminded that they are seen, loved, and worth celebrating.

Let’s fill our community with generosity this Christmas!

Volunteer Spotlight: Dave & Sandra ❤️

Today we’re shining a spotlight on two incredible volunteers, Dave and Sandra, whose story with foster care began more than 50 years ago.

Originally from Ohio, Dave and Sandra were raising their three children when, in 1975, they wanted to open their home to a child who didn’t have a family to celebrate Christmas with. When they called their county office, they learned that holiday placements were no longer available. Instead, they were asked if they would consider becoming foster parents.

After learning what fostering would require and spending time praying and talking it over as a family, they decided they were all in. They completed their training, welcomed their first foster child into their home, and began a journey that would become a lifelong connection to foster care.

When they later felt led to move to Florida, it was another big decision they brought before God as a family. Within just two months, their home had sold, they had found a place to live and jobs, and they were settled in Bradenton. And once they were settled, they jumped right back into foster care.

Foster the Family didn’t exist when Dave and Sandra were fostering, but years later, they discovered our ministry through their church, which has many foster families. They knew firsthand what it looked like to walk through foster care, and they wanted to use that experience to encourage and support families who are in it today.

Although they no longer foster, volunteering with Foster the Family gives them a way to stay connected to the foster care community and continue supporting families.

Dave and Sandra, thank you for saying yes all those years ago, and for continuing to say yes today. Your story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes one “yes” can turn into a lifetime of making a difference. ❤️

We are so grateful to have you as part of the Foster the Family family!

These are not just numbers.

Behind each number is a child. A child who has experienced things no child should have to experience. A child who needs stability, safety, love, and a community willing to show up for them.

In July alone, 13,528 children in Florida were in foster care, kinship care, or out-of-home care. And right here in our own community, hundreds of children are being cared for by foster, adoptive, and kinship families who have opened their homes and said, “Yes, I will care for this child.”

But they shouldn't have to do it alone.

At Foster the Family, we believe there is a place for everyone to serve.

You can write thank-you cards.

You can put together Christmas packages.

You can volunteer at Kids' Day Out, playing games and doing activities with children while their caregivers receive three precious hours of rest.

You can make freezer meals.

You can shop for items needed in our FosterCARE packages.

You can help host a table at an event and share about foster care and how others can get involved.

You can pick up a large donation.

You can deliver a Special Initiative Package to a family who needs a little extra support.

You can use your unique gifts and talents to bless a foster or adoptive family.

You can mow a lawn.

You can change the oil in a vehicle.

You can simply show up.

There are so many ways to serve, and you don't have to be a foster parent to make a difference in the life of a child.

So, the question isn't if you can help.

How will you help?

How will you show up for the foster, adoptive, and kinship families in your community who are opening their homes to some of our most vulnerable children?

Because these children are more than a number.

They are worth showing up for. 🤍
