—————-
Of & Other is a series of conversations circulating through the gallery, echoing, overlapping, and accumulating into a shared language of presence and exchange between the artists, their collaborators, and the viewer. It speaks to lived experience through self-portraiture, portraits of one another, and landscapes of collective experience, considering how narrative is constructed and how we come to tell the stories of our lives. It reflects on consumption as both a natural and cultural process, where cycles of desire, use, and disposal blur the line between necessity and excess.
This exhibition draws on the visual structures of jewelry, text messages, comic books, and embroidery to examine how information is held, framed, and shared. Using materials rooted in consumer culture that are fast, plentiful, and ubiquitous, such as cardboard and concrete, with others in contrast more archival and longstanding, the work reflects both the durability and disposability of contemporary communication, forming a layered record of lived experiences, portraits, and the narratives we construct to make sense of them.
About the Artists:
Staci Offutt is interested in transforming familiar frameworks through scale and material, translating digital into physical forms, pushing what feels essential and omnipresent toward absurdity and disposability, and elevating what feels fleeting and reflexive into something prized.
Laura Tabakman explores accumulation, repetition, and material language through installation as a way of mapping experience. Her work draws from systems found in nature and human behavior alike, building surfaces and forms that feel at once organic and constructed, intimate and expansive.
