Chamber Music Piece of the Week: Jennifer Higdon’s Impressions for String Quartet! This work was commissioned by the Cypress String Quartet and is a response to impressionist art and music, but especially to the Debussy and Ravel String Quartets. This piece beautifully encapsulates several characteristics of impressionist music such as the use of pizzicato and other techniques to create more percussive effects and colors, inspiration from the gamelan, a nod to pointillism, and many other elements. Be sure to give this piece a listen this week!

Reminiscing on the incredible Anderson and Roe Piano Duo that came to MCM back in 2024. Their dynamic energy and musicality absolutely captivated the audience!!

Chamber Music Piece of the Week: it’s been far too long since we have featured a brass piece!!! You should absolutely check out this arrangement of the hymn Fight On! This is featured on The Westerlies album Paradise. Go listen to the full song on their album, but in the meantime, enjoy this clip of when they performed it at Montana Chamber Music 😄🎺

🎹 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Tristan Vernooy!

What do you call a talented pianist who would rather be backstage than in the spotlight? Meet Tristan, a self-described “living room pianist” who loves opening stage doors and turning pages for world-class pianists at Montana Chamber Music concerts!

A graduate of Montana State University, Tristan studied piano with Julie Gosswiller and loves jazz improvisation and Chopin. Now he's preparing for a career as a piano technician, hoping to build his future in Montana, close to family, mountains, and music.

We're grateful for Tristan's quiet dedication, generous spirit, and love of beautiful music.

After all, a life filled with music doesn't always require an audience! 💛
