“A trailblazer, activist, and champion of education and literacy.” That’s how the City of Boston described Sarah-Ann Shaw at the dedication of the Shaw-Roxbury Branch of the Boston Public Library now bearing her name. A GLS Class of 1952 graduate, Sarah-Ann Shaw became Boston’s first Black woman TV reporter, working at WBZ-TV from 1969 to 2000. A lifelong Roxbury resident, she passed away in 2024 at age 90.

Her story is one of many that make our alumni community remarkable! For nearly 150 years, this school has stood as a beacon of academic excellence and opportunity. Founded in 1878 as Girls’ Latin School, the first public college preparatory school for girls in the United States, it opened doors for young women at a time when few such doors existed. Those students went on to become educators, physicians, scientists, lawyers, writers, and trailblazers who broke barriers and set benchmarks for those who followed. Sarah-Ann Shaw was one of them!

Today, Boston Latin Academycontinues that proud legacy, challenging a diverse community of students to expand their horizons and carry its tradition of excellence into the future. The Boston Latin Academy Association(BLAA) is proud to support this legacy, connecting generations of GLS and BLA alumni, celebrating stories like Sarah-Ann’s, and investing in future Dragons.

Boston Latin Academy Association is proud to support Boston Latin Academy athletics. Our Girls' Varsity Hockey Team held its 1st Annual Golf Tournament at the Robert T. Lynch Golf Course, together with Fontbonne Academy — and it was a tremendous success! Below is a heartfelt thank-you from the team to all our sponsors, donors, and families whose generosity made this event so special.

"Our hockey families contributed an incredible variety of gift baskets, including home massage and wellness packages, Bruins and Red Sox tickets, a 2025/26 Boston Bruins team‑signed jersey, an autographed Paul Pierce Bushmills bottle, themed golf baskets, Mighty Squirrel and Castle Island baskets, a Bloody Mary basket, movie night basket, chocolate‑chip‑making basket with a homemade recipe, beautifully crafted corn hole boards, and a stunning American flag.

We are grateful to our many sponsors, including the Mighty Squirrel Brewing Company, Foxwoods, Boston Crawling, Treetop Adventure, North Shore Music Theatre, Let’s Roam, Old Town Trolley, Boston Fleet, and Minnesota Frost, whose support helped make this event possible.

Thank you as well to all the golfers who joined us on such a beautiful day—the weather could not have been better. And a big shout‑out to the players who volunteered their time to manage the course and ensure participants had everything they needed throughout the event."
