Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I was out of town visiting family and am sending this reminder a little later than usual, but we do not want anyone to miss our June Shreveport Photographic Society Competition Meeting this Thursday evening.

We hope you’ll join us for another evening of photography, friendly competition, image sharing, and time with fellow members and friends.

Date: Thursday, June 11, 2026
Time: 6:30 PM

Location:
Red River Research Station
262 Research Station Dr.
Bossier City, LA 71112

Plenty of parking is available.

What’s Happening
We will have both our Print Image Competition and Digital Image Competition, so please bring your prints and send in your digital entries as usual.

For digital competition, please send your high-resolution JPEG entries to our Competition Chair, Cindy Circu, according to the usual submission guidelines. Email her at [email protected] by Tuesday so she has time to prepare the slideshow.

Whether you are entering images, coming to observe, or simply want to enjoy an evening with other photographers, we would love to see you there. These meetings are always a wonderful chance to learn from one another, be inspired, and support the work of our fellow members.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Thursday night!

Sincerely,

Hello SPS Members,

📷 A Quick Update from Shreveport Photographic Society

We hope everyone is doing well and finding a little time to get out with your camera and enjoy making photographs.

📍 Field Trip Update

Rickey Scroggins asked me to pass along that, unfortunately, there will not be a photo field trip this month. What had been planned did not work out, but we hope to try again next month.

As Rickey said with his usual good humor, “Y’all can throw rocks at me at the next meeting. See you then!”

We appreciate all the effort that goes into putting these outings together and look forward to the next opportunity.

🖼️ A Different Critique Format for May Competition

For our May competition, Rickey is proposing that we try something a little different.

Some of you may remember that in January we did not have one of our regular critiquers available, so those attending the meeting stepped in and participated in an impromptu critique of each image submitted in both the print and digital competitions. Many members enjoyed hearing several different viewpoints, and it gave everyone a chance to learn from the discussion.

At the same time, there were also members who were concerned that the meeting ran longer than normal, but there was no survey taken at that time about whether this kind of peer critique should be allowed on an as-needed basis whenever one of our critiquers not available.

Because of the interest in that format, Rickey would like to try it again in May and get a better sense of how members feel about it.

If members respond favorably, he plans to put together a proposed rule change for our annual business meeting in November so the club can officially consider whether occasional peer critiques should be permitted when needed.

If anyone has questions or concerns about this idea, please feel free to let Rickey know.

⚠️ Important Note for Competition Participants

Club president Larry Phillips has advised that if any competition participant would prefer not to have their image critiqued during this members-led session, they may simply let us know before submitting their image(s).

This gives everyone the opportunity to participate at their own comfort level.

🤝 Looking Ahead

One of the nicest things about SPS is the willingness of members to share, encourage, and learn from one another. Whether this critique format becomes something we use again from time to time or not, it is always good to see members engaged and helping make the club a friendly and educational place for everyone.

We look forward to seeing everyone in May.

Sincerely,
Jeannie Varuso
