Born and raised in Boone, Jessi is proud to call this community home. By day, she’s your local lunch lady, and by passion, she helps BooneIA Pride connect with our community through marketing and communications.

When she’s not helping spread the word about BooneIA Pride, Jessi loves spending time with her hot wife 😉 and their 2½-year-old son. She’s also a fan of gardening, everything Halloween, and, of course, the Twilight Saga 🐀✨.

Today we’re shining the spotlight on our Treasurer — Kara!

Kara has called Boone home since the age of four and has spent the past 29 years serving individuals and small businesses through her accounting practice, GDG Services LLC, in Ames. As a tax preparer and Licensed Public Accountant (LPA), she provides tax, accounting, payroll, and business consulting services while building trusted, long-term client relationships.

With decades of experience and a passion for serving others, Kara brings invaluable knowledge and dedication to the BooneIA Pride Board. She is proud to support BooneIA Pride and is passionate about helping strengthen the Boone community and the surrounding central Iowa area.

FREE Community Movie Night hosted by Boone Pride is tomorrow night — Sunday, July 26!

Join us at the Boone Theater (818 Story Street) for a fun night with friends, family, and community.

🚪 Doors open at 5:00 PM
🎥 Movie starts around 5:15–5:30 PM

We’ll be showing “Strange World” and admission is completely FREE!

🍿 Concessions will be available for purchase at cost.

Rev. Catherine serves as the Priest-in-Charge at Grace Episcopal Church in Boone and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Webster City. She is proud to be part of an affirming and supportive faith community through The Episcopal Church.

A retired teacher, Catherine spent many years supporting, encouraging, and caring for the individuals she worked with. She is proud to be part of the Boone community and is passionate about helping make Boone a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place for everyone.

Thank you, Catherine, for your compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to creating a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported. We are grateful to have you serving as Vice President of BooneIA Pride! 🌈💜

We’re starting a new short series where we introduce you to the names, faces, and stories behind the BooneIA Pride Board!

Our board is made up of passionate community members who volunteer their time, energy, and hearts to help make Boone a more welcoming, inclusive, and supportive place for everyone. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be highlighting each board member so you can get to know the people working behind the scenes to support BooneIA Pride.

So, let’s meet the amazing people who help make BooneIA Pride possible! 💜🌈

✨ Today we’re shining the spotlight on our President and one of the original organizers of Boone Iowa Pride — La Homa “Homie” Simmonds!

La Homa (Homie) Simmonds is a 5ft Navy Veteran, Licensed Massage Therapist of 15 years, and End-of-Life Death Doula. A partner of Ian Simmonds for 35 years, mother for 28 years to 2 humans, and Unchi (Lakota for grandmother) to 2 GrandHobbits. She has been an Ordained Minister since 2009, following Iowa’s recognition of marriage equality.

Homie is the owner of Central Iowa Massage, a female-owned business, and a dedicated community leader and organizer in Boone, Iowa. She serves as the President and original organizer of Boone Iowa Pride and the Boone Rocky Horror Picture Show. She is also a frequent collaborator with Boone Community Theatre for 20 years and an original organizer of the Iowa regional Burning Man event, HearthsoPhyre.

A fire performer, adventure seeker, and self-described random adrenaline j***y, Homie brings creativity, passion, and a whole lot of heart to everything she does.

Thank you, Homie, for your leadership, your vision, and the countless ways you continue to show up for our community. BooneIA Pride wouldn’t be what it is without your dedication and the love you pour into making Boone a more welcoming place for everyone. 🌈💜
