Hope's Safe Haven

Hope's Safe Haven Our Advocates are here to help you move forward and to live a life free from violence.

Hope's Safe Haven has an emergency shelter as well as a 24/7 crisis hotline to aid victims of domestic and sexual violence in their efforts to reclaim their lives. Polk County House of Hope is an emergency shelter for victims of domestic and sexual violence. Our outreach team is in place to provide services and support to individuals and families who may not necessarily require shelter but are in

need of a helping hand, or support system, while navigating the crisis and trauma DV/SV can bring into our lives unexpectedly. We also have a thrift store named "Hopes Closet", we use the donations to provide clothing and household items to the families we serve within the shelter & the community. Hopes Closet accepts donations daily and is open to the public six days a week. House of Hope also hosts a few support groups weekly, call the Main Office for more details on how you can get involved with support group or Volunteer with our organization!

Kids are never "just" witnesses.

Research finds child abuse and partner abuse overlap in 30 to 60% of families. Where one is happening, look for the other — and when a child is living in it, they're living in it whether or not anyone lays a hand on them.

If that's your house, or a house you're worried about, call us. Free, confidential, any hour.

Congratulations to Hope's Safe Haven for receiving an FHLB Member Impact Fund grant! 🎉 As a 24/7 crisis hotline and emergency shelter for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, Hope’s Safe Haven provides a vital lifeline in our community. This grant will help complete unrenovated areas of their new building, creating dedicated space for on-site support groups and programming, while updating the exterior to ensure a welcoming, dignified entry for survivors arriving in crisis.

We are proud to partner with Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to support nonprofits doing such important work in our community!

Know a good gate installer?

We're gathering quotes to turn this manual gate into a motorized sliding gate — better security for the property, and easier access for delivery trucks.

Send us a message or tag someone who does this kind of work. Local recommendations welcome.

A small ask, and we don't make them often.

If you have a minute, would you invite your friends to follow this page?

Go to our page → tap the three dots → tap "Invite friends" → invite everyone you can.

That's it. It takes about a minute.

We're not chasing numbers. We're trying to make sure that when someone in Polk County needs this number, it's already sitting in their feed. If this gets our hotline in front of one person who needs it, it was worth the minute.

Some news from us.

We've partnered with VisualWorks Design to help us reach more of the people who need us. Here's what's coming:
→ A new website
→ Updated outreach across our community
→ New ways for you to get involved

We're also pursuing funding to expand what we're able to offer in Polk County.

Make sure you're following us so you don't miss what's coming.

Every survivor deserves a place to land. Thank you for helping us be that place.

THANK GOODNESS!! After over a month and a half missing, our shelter cat Tito has made his way back to us. We owe a huge thank you to Nikki Wise who answered his cries of distress and took the time to post on FB and reach out to us while keeping him safely contained last night until he was picked up and delivered home! We are so grateful!

Hope's Safe Haven participated in the 2026 Denim Day by wearing denim, an international campaign to protest victim-blaming in sexual assault cases and support survivors.

Denim Day 2026 is observed on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. It is a global campaign held during Sexual Assault Awareness Month where people wear denim to protest victim-blaming and support survivors of sexual violence. The movement began after a 1992 Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a r**e conviction because the victim wore tight jeans.
