Did you know that 1981 had the SAME calendar we have in 2026? Check out this picture from Temple Beth El's Nursery School exactly 45 years ago - spot the calendar? Today is ALSO Monday the 26th. We love these fun history finds.

This photo is part of the TBE Education Collection, part of which is being digitized by our wonderful Digital Intern this semester!

The passing of Joan Jampel marks the loss of someone whose generosity continues to shape Jewish Detroit today. Mike Smith looks back on her remarkable legacy, including the pivotal role she and her late husband, Bob, played in helping create what is now the William Davidson Digital Archive of Jewish Detroit History, ensuring generations of stories will never be lost.

We mourn the loss of Joan Meyers Jampel (1929-2026), for whom the Jampel Center is named. Joan was a passionate supporter of preserving the history of Jewish Detroit and ensuring the stories of our community were brought to light. She played an active role in the Archives Committees for both the The Jewish Federation of Detroit and Temple Beth El, where she sponsored (along with her late husband, Robert) the popular Jewish History Detective Lecture Series. The growth of both collections and their outreach would not have been possible without her dedication.

Joan will be deeply missed but we are proud to carry on her legacy at the Joan Meyers Jampel Center for Michigan Jewish Heritage.
