Petersburg, Russia, in 1880 to provide the impoverished with marketable skills, today’s curricula has evolved to meet the needs of a complex marketplace in such cutting edge fields as telecommunications, robotics, bioengineering, and biochemistry. ORT’s educational and vocational programs provide its students with the best possible educational preparation, social services assistance, and financial support to remain in school and break the cycle of poverty. Michigan’s Hermelin ORT Resource Center, provides a local example of the important work that ORT is performing across the globe. Through the Better Jobs Opportunities Program (BJO), Hermelin ORT provides free computer training courses to unemployed and underemployed Michigan residents teaching the programs that are essential for finding a job in today’s marketplace. To date, ORT has impacted the lives of millions of students, equipping them with a high caliber education and the technological training needed to become productive members of their communities and the world.
