Rescued Pets Are Wonderful

Words...
Words are hard to come by with these situations are presented. We don't know her history or her story. We don't know how she lived, where she came from, how she was treated or how she ended up here.
What we do know is she is a skeleton of a Cane Corso at 58 # which is almost half of what she should be. She has chronic issues with her eyes including "Cherry Eye" and dry eye. Her nails were double the length they should be. Most importantly, she had a basketball sized mammary mass hanging from her abdomen, almost dragging on the ground that had ulcerated and broke open.

This dog lived somewhere for sometime... she is likely around 8 years old. She was likely bred. She likely never had much if any vet care. She ended up as another unclaimed stray at animal control. Due to her medical conditions and needs, the likelihood she would find anyone to take her was slim. The impound facilities are not meant for longterm placement, nor are they the place for longterm care. She was scheduled for euthanasia yesterday.

We knew that even if she had terminal cancer, this is not how her story should end. She deserved to be spoiled and loved no matter what she went through. So we took her today! We removed the mass and whatever the results show, she will have an ending outside of impound and she will know that her life mattered.

Her name is now Gertie and she would love to feel the love! So please drop a comment velow that we will share with her ❤️

Ouch!
This poor fella was found outside on someone's property with a nasty wound. Thankfully they were able to trap him and we already had someone from the area coming up to our clinic so he hitched a ride.
We have named him Garbonzo and he is not happy right now but we sedated him, got him cleaned up and on pain meds. We have collected a slew of lab work including a biopsy of the tissue and we hope to get some answers over the next couple days.

We would love to raise the funds to cover his lab work ($300)

**Angie update**

This girl is in worse shape than originally thought. She cannot hold herself up or really move. Her neck is likely injured as well because she cannot eat out of a bowl, we have to hand feed her.

She is a fighter though and she seems to almost smile whenever we give her soft and quiet attention.

The plan for now is to keep things calm and let her body heal from whatever she went through. She is on a slew of medications to keep her comfortable and fight the infection in her lungs.

This one stings...
When you look at this photo you may say "awe look how cute"
When you hear her story you will have an overwhelming flood of emotions.

5 fractured ribs
Left femur fracture
Left for more than 2 weeks without care which lead to:
Pneumonia
Unable to walk/move much
Not eating

The cause - cruelty and abuse at the hands of minors. Why? We will never know because no one is talking. Justice? Nope because no one is talking.

Things are rarely fair in the world of animal welfare. What makes "sense" to us rarely goes the right way in the legal world. And before you comment, "call the police" "they should be charged" "someone needs to be held responsible" "animal cruelty is illegal" yes, we know. Unfortunately, to prove actual cruelty is almost impossible without video evidence or at the very least an eye witness statement. And before you say "animal cruelty is a felony now" yes, that may be true but only if said animal dies from the abuse/injuries... if they survive it's just a misdemeanor. "Kids who hurt animals grow up to hurt people" yep we know. All of the appropriate steps were taking in this case, police were called, an I mal control was called, case reports were made, things were investigated and even though everyone is in agreement with what happened here, with no proof/evidence/witnesses nothing more can be done.

Now that we have gotten the case straight, meet Angie ❤️
She is a 12 week old pit bull mix and she is perfect.
We can fix broken bones and she can recover from pneumonia. The road will be long and expensive and we have committed to taking over her story from here. Her past is just that and we will not discuss things or even think about it anymore.

Angie needs the community to surround her with the support and love she deserves. You're donations will save her life. Abuse and cruelty will not win here, they will not claim this puppy's life.

In rescue we are here to pick up the pieces and make it so these animals don't need to ever think about their past again.

The time has come for our sweet baby British Lab girls to find their forever families!

Bo and Sammy were born at the end of June 2025. They are purebred British Labrador Retrievers who are sisters. At about 12 weeks old their breeder noticed that they were having issues keeping their food and water down after eating. They were not gaining the weight they should be either. When taken to their vet it was discovered that they have a congenital condition called Megaesophagus. This is when the part of the stomach that is supposed to tighten at the top to keep the food down does not function correctly and in turn causes their Esophagus to stretch out. When this happens food that they swallow comes right back out. It is called regurgitation, not vomiting.

Because of this condition they will need to eat in special chairs for life. The nice thing is, since they joined us at 12 weeks old, they have been eating in these chairs and are fully trained to them. Currently they eat 3 times a day. We soak their Nutrisource kibble in water and they get that along with some unflavored gelatin cubes. Meal time is their favorite time 🙂

They are special needs due to this but they can live long and happy lives despite their condition. They love to go for walks, run around in the backyard, play with toys and snuggle with people just like any other dog. They will likely not be able to go swimming due to the increased risk of aspirating water into their lungs. They cannot drink water from a bowl or have treats like usual. Instead they get hydration from the gelatin cubes and can have the human toddler puffs for treats, the ones that melt in their mouth.

These ladies love other dogs but also need to be adopted separately. We do not adopt littermate puppies due to the risk of littermate syndrome. They have been housed separately but eat together in side by side chairs.

You will not meet sweeter girls! Bo would be an excellent running partner and she is the more outgoing and mischievous sister 😉

We introduced Briella earlier spring of 2025 when she was impounded at a local animal control. She had a bad limp and when they brought her into the emergency clinic, it was determined she had a bad hip, broken leg, multiple fractured ribs and a couple skull fractures… all in varying stages of healing. This is a tell tale sign of abuse unfortunately.
When she arrived we immediately got to work on her medical issues. She needed her rear leg amputated but thankfully so doesn’t miss it. She is a short, petite thing weighing in at about 45 #.
Unfortunately, physical trauma wasn’t all she needed to overcome. Briella had some mental instability from psychological trauma. She was never shown how to be a dog and what was appropriate and not. She didn’t have manners or boundaries and she had no clue how to act on a leash.

This is where our amazing friends at 2nd Chance To Shine in La Crosse came in. They accepted her into their program and got to work right away. She was immediately given boundaries and expectations. Routines are what dogs live by and without one can cause unnecessary chaos. Briella was working in manners and simple obedience as well as leash work. The next few months were exactly what she needed. It was also determined that since she has so much pent up anxiety, she would benefit from an anti-anxiety medication. At a low/effective dose, she has made huge progress. This medication is inexpensive and whenever she is able to get into a forever home, she will likely be able to be weaned off them.

Finally, Briella needed to learn appropriate behavior around other dogs. This was another skill she was never taught. She came in hot to every new dog she met. This was frequently met with a verbal and physical correction by the other dog and then an inappropriate reaction by Briella. She has been doing incredibly well and now is in doggie daycare everyday!

As you can see she has found her “sea legs” when it comes to life in general. This girl is a true success story and deserves an amazing life moving forward!
Briella is about 3.5 years old and full of love and life!
