🎉🏡 CONGRATULATIONS, SALOME — YOU FOUND YOUR FOREVER HOME! 🏡🎉

Oh, how we have waited to make THIS announcement! 🥹💙

Our beautiful Salome, aka Sallie Mae, has officially been ADOPTED! 🐾❤️

And the best part? She’s joining the family of Mark & Cassandra, who are not only previous AAHMN adopters, but also wonderful AAHMN volunteers. We couldn’t be happier knowing Sallie Mae is beginning this next chapter with people who already understand just how special rescue Huskies can be. 💕

Now, don’t expect a glamorous adoption-day photo shoot from our girl. 😂 Sallie Mae has never been one for the spotlight—or having her picture taken! 📸🙈 She’s much more interested in quietly enjoying life on her own terms, and we wouldn’t have her any other way.

Salome’s journey has been one of patience, trust, courage and so many little victories. She came into rescue needing time to learn what it meant to feel safe, to be loved and simply to enjoy being a dog.

🇺🇸🐾 LABOR DAY WEEKEND SAFETY TIPS 🐾🇺🇸

Labor Day weekend means cookouts, gatherings, road trips, and one last unofficial celebration of summer! ☀️ Before the fun begins, make sure your four-legged family members stay safe too.

🔥 Keep pups away from grills & fire pits. Hot surfaces, flames, grease, and skewers can cause serious injuries.

🍔 Skip the table scraps. Keep bones, corn cobs, fatty foods, chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, alcohol, and foods containing xylitol safely out of reach.

🌡️ Watch the heat. Provide plenty of fresh water and shade, limit strenuous activity, and NEVER leave a dog in a parked vehicle.

🐾 Protect those paws. Asphalt and pavement can remain dangerously hot even when the air feels comfortable.

🚪 Secure doors, gates & fences. Guests coming and going can create the perfect opportunity for a Husky escape artist. Double-check those gates!

🏷️ Check ID tags & microchips. Make sure your dog’s identification and microchip contact information are current before the weekend begins.

🚗 Travel safely. Use a secured crate or dog seat-belt restraint, plan water and potty breaks, and never allow your dog to ride loose in the bed of a pickup.

🎆 Plan for unexpected fireworks. Even if you aren’t setting them off, someone nearby might be. Give anxious dogs a quiet, secure place indoors and keep them leashed outside.

🇺🇸 However you spend the long weekend, a little planning can help keep everyone safe, happy, and together.

🦨🦔 SEPTEMBER SAFETY: SKUNKS & PORCUPINES! 🐾

Fall is almost here, which means cooler nights, longer walks…and a greater chance that your curious canine might encounter a stinky or prickly neighbor. 😬

So what happens when curiosity wins?

🦨 IF YOUR DOG GETS SPRAYED BY A SKUNK:
Keep them OUTSIDE if possible—you don’t want that smell joining you on the couch. 😂 Avoid letting them rub their face, especially if their eyes are irritated. If spray gets in the eyes, gently flush them with plenty of lukewarm water or sterile saline. For the coat, a commonly recommended deodorizing mixture is hydrogen peroxide + baking soda + liquid dish soap. Don’t store the mixture in a closed container because it releases gas. If your dog has significant eye irritation, vomiting, breathing problems, weakness, or other concerning symptoms, contact your veterinarian.

🦔 IF YOUR DOG GETS QUILLED BY A PORCUPINE:
🚫 DO NOT cut the quills.
🚫 DO NOT try to push them through.
🚫 DO NOT assume your dog will be fine because you only see a few.

Keep your dog as calm as possible and call your veterinarian promptly. Quills can break, become embedded, migrate deeper into tissue, and may be hiding inside the mouth or other areas you can’t easily see. Removal can be painful, and veterinary sedation or anesthesia is often needed.

🔦 PREVENT THE ENCOUNTER BEFORE IT HAPPENS: Light up the yard, go outside with your dog after dark, keep them close or leashed when appropriate, and don’t let them approach wildlife.

Because when your Woo says, “Hold my treats…I gotta check this out!” 🤦‍♀️

The answer is NO. 😂

🦨💨 STINKY OR PRICKLY… NEITHER, PLEASE! 🦔😬

September means cooler evenings, changing leaves…and a few wildlife neighbors our dogs would be MUCH better off admiring from a distance. 😂🐾

Late summer and fall can bring increased encounters with skunks and porcupines, especially around dusk, overnight, and early morning.

And if you have a Husky, you already know:

👀 “What’s that?”
👃 “I should investigate.”
🏃 “I SHOULD DEFINITELY CHASE IT.”

Before nighttime potty breaks:
🔦 Light up and check the yard.
🐕 Go outside with your dog.
🦮 Keep them close or leashed when wildlife may be nearby.
🦨 Never encourage an up-close introduction—no matter how badly your Woo wants to make a new “friend.”

Because some life lessons don’t need to be learned firsthand. 😂
