The North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA) is a service and program agency of the state, established in 1967 by the North Dakota State Legislature “to ensure that the role of the arts in the life of our communities will continue to grow and will play an evermore significant part in the welfare and educational experience of our citizens.” NDCA's purpose is to bring that commitment to life. We couldn't do our work without the continued support of the North Dakota State Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts and our many partners across the state and region. All can participate; all are welcome; and arts and culture thrive.

🪶 NDCA is SO EXCITED to share that the first Arts Across the Prairie: Placemaking in Rural North Dakota artwork is currently being installed. Watch for an official press release when it is finished. Visitation information will be shared then.

🎤 NDCA is proud to once again offer this program to schools in North Dakota. Along with the chance to learn and recite great poetry, one student and a chaperone will win an all-expenses paid trip to the National POL Contest in Washington, DC.

😮 ATTN: North Dakota Nonprofits--- 💲 Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 cycle of GIG Fund: Interstate Touring, an evolution of the GIG Fund.

This grant helps Midwestern (only 9 states) nonprofits host professional artists for performances, exhibitions, and workshops that reach local audiences. Organizations can request $2,000 to $10,000.

New this year: Projects must feature an artist who lives outside of your state. Priority given to rural applicants.

Get the GIG by completing your Phase 1 Application by noon (12 pm) CT on November 4, 2026, with Phase 2 Proposals due by noon (12 pm) CT on November 17, 2026.

We were thrilled to join Governor Armstrong at the State Capitol alongside NDCA Executive Director Jessica Christy and Humanities (The Study ND ) Director Brenna Gerhardt as the proclamation was signed --- a perfect kickoff to an October filled with creativity and community.

With our big convening next week featuring incredible speakers, breakout sessions, hands-on activities, and the FREE Block Party, we’re launching one of our biggest celebrations yet.
